Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Louie Roy Date: 19 Aug 03 - 09:19 PM Another clue.I played at the Douglas County Fair for 5 days with the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers and we do take requests.Waltz Across Walmart was requested but we were unable to do the request, but I did leave the stage and talked to the gentleman who made the request and he said he lived in Mountain View ARK,for 2 years and heard this tune several times by different groups throughout the city so maybe if we have some mudcatters in that area they can find the words.Hopefully this will help.Louie Roy |

I'll have to start asking around. I would guess someone was singing it on the court square and we have folks from just about everywhere congregating around the courthouse and joining in the music. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 03 Dec 05 - 11:26 AM I suspect that "Waltz across Walmart" was just a joke title, a reference to a song that doesn't exist. There are lots of joke titles, especially about country music. |
|
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Arkie Date: 03 Dec 05 - 09:14 PM It could have been a joke title but I would not be surprised if an actual song turned up. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: GUEST,Dale Date: 03 Dec 05 - 11:59 PM Gene has asked me about this one a couple of times. I have asked around a bit with no luck. But as Arkie said yesterday, lots of people from lots of places sing and play on the square. I's a matter of talking to the right ones. My google search brought up nothing except this thread. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Arkie Date: 05 Dec 05 - 10:55 PM So far I've found "Standing In Line at Wal-Mart" and a song praising Wal-Mart's return policy with the singer eagerly awaiting her next visit with her mother-in-law. But now waltzing. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Aug 06 - 11:18 PM Could this be the song you heard? Transcribed from a sound sample at RVsongs4you: WALTZING THROUGH WAL-MART Cliff Rodman We're waltzing through Wal-Mart while parking on their lot, Staying where the camping is free. Out come the slides, the chairs, and the fake grass. We're setting up our RV. Folks are a-starin' but we ain't a-carin'. The satellite has its own parkin' spot. We're waltzing through Wal-Mart, parkin' on their lot, Staying where the camping is free. We're waltzing through Wal-Mart, shopping till we drop. We're happy as we can be.... [As sung by Cliff Rodman on his album "RVsongs4you." [Note: the song as recorded does NOT use the same tune as WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS, but I think it could be sung to that tune, although the scansion leaves something to be desired. Whaddaya wanna bet, the writer first conceived of this song as a parody of WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS, but then changed the tune, and maybe the title, to make it sound more original? [Cliff Rodman, by the way, has a very nice, mellow voice.] |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Dave'sWife Date: 25 Aug 06 - 07:56 AM Could it be to the tune of the Waltz Across Texas written by Rodney Crowel and recorded by Emmylou Harris on WRECKING BALL? It's a modern tune and song (of course) and the lyrics seem to fit better to that tune. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Louie Roy Date: 25 Aug 06 - 10:20 AM Jim Dixon,I think yu have finally solved this post.I won't be able to see the guy who heard the tune several times in Mountain View Arkansas until sometime in October and I will find out then if these are the correct words and I will post his reply.I'm sure he didn't hear Cliff Rodman singing this tune but I willing to bet right now this is the tune he heard.Louie Roy |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Louie Roy Date: 17 Jun 08 - 10:18 AM It has been a couple of years since we looked at this thread so maybe some new mudcatter will have the tune and the lyrics and Jim Dixon Waltzing through Walmart parking lot isn't the same song. I was able to find a source that had a cd with this on it and it has several other tune all about RVS |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Across Wal-Mart From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Jun 08 - 12:07 AM An article in the Fort Scott [Kansas] Tribune says "Wes Coleman, the mandolin player and singer from the Butler area" sang WALTZ ACROSS WALMART (sic) at a senior citizen dance at the Buck Run Community Center. This blog says Wayne Hoover sang WALTZ ACROSS WALMART (sic) at the Countryside Jamboree in Cameron, MO on 5/9/2008. At least we know the song really exists; it's not just a "joke title." I suppose a sufficiently motivated person could track down these two musicians and ask them. |

Subject: Lyr Add: WALTZ ACROSS WAL-MART From: Louie Roy Date: 27 Dec 09 - 02:56 PM WALTZ ACROSS WAL-MART (It took nearly 12 years but here are the lyrics:) CHORUS: Waltz across Wal-Mart with checkbook in hand And a cart that holds way, way too much. It rolls free and easy up and down every aisle Among all the bargains and such. 1. When my wife thinks of Wal-Mart with that look in her eyes, It seems that my wallet gets poorer. We'll be bankrupt tomorrow but we'll have lots of stuff From every darn aisle in the store. CHORUS 2. You can buy underwear or parts for your car, Get your meds at the prescription store, Food for your dog, and seeds for your bird, And a corset for your wife and much more. CHORUS 3. My back aches, my feet hurt as I trail her around, Then some lady hits my heel with her cart. A man's life is in danger in more ways than one When he takes his wife out to Wal-Mart. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz across Wal-Mart From: Joe Offer Date: 07 Jan 10 - 01:06 AM This request was posted in April, 1998. Louie Roy answered it in December, 2009. Now, that's tenacious. Good job, Louie! My wife makes ME do the Wal-Mart shopping. She hates the place. -Joe- |
