Subject: BS: Political Compass From: Bagpuss Date: 15 Oct 02 - 10:46 AM Political Compass I don't know if any of you have seen this site before, it has a questionnaire which determines your political leanings on a 2D scale of Economic Left/Right and Authoritarian/Liberal. It also gives you the positions of historical and current polititians to compare yourself with. I scored -4.38 on the L/R dimension and -5.08 on the A/L dimension. It's nice to be in the same quadrant as Ghandi rather than Hitler or Stalin! Anyone else care to share? Bagpuss |

Subject: RE: BS: Political Compass From: DMcG Date: 15 Oct 02 - 11:02 AM I was nearly a direct hit on Ghandi - it is a version of the game "battleships", isn't it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Political Compass From: GUEST Date: 15 Oct 02 - 01:31 PM I notice you're getting more left-wing and more libertarian as you get older, Bagpuss. |

Subject: RE: BS: Political Compass From: NicoleC Date: 15 Oct 02 - 02:43 PM Back in school, we discussed political philosophy in terms of a horse, i.e. people who are far "left" will find themselves agreeing a lot with people who are far "right." This is kinda a similar, using quadrants instead. I've seen a similar test before -- this one was tough because it didnt allow you to mark a question "depends," everything was just black and white. And it didn't discuss many cruicial political issues while asking questions about abortion, which more of a religious issue than a political one. I'm glad to be in the same quadrant as Ghandi, too. Economic L/R - 7.00 (I disagree with the score, but there it is) Auth/Libertarian - 6.62 (Sounds about right.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Political Compass From: GUEST,Penny S. (elsewhere) Date: 16 Oct 02 - 07:19 AM I'm in the same place I was last time - but I think the questions have changed - it seems that the top right position responses don't seem so obviously "wrong" as I remember. Last time I thought that to get up there in the authoritarian right, responses would have to be deliberately pushed there, this time you would not have to be unreasonable. Just not very empathic, caring or good at thinking for yourself. Penny |
