Here is a slow air I wrote to honour the memory of my uncle, Gilbert Lightfoot. Written specifically for the pipes, it's starting to get a little 'air time' with pipers and pipe bands around the globe.

How this sounds depends entirely on the quality of your sound card. I've tried to sequence the midi to simulate the smallpipes, and I've added a little instrumental background on the repeat, just for the challenge. 'Turned out better than I expected.

I've placed this tune into the public domain, so it's royalty-free for performance or recording purposes, but please acknowledge my authorship.

Many thanks Barry,

I might have little trouble transposing it to play on my Northumbrian Small Pipes: I'm sure the effort will be worth it!

Here is the notation in pdf format for your convenience, 8_Pints.

The time signature is a little weird, as the tune is like a 12/8 with an extra pulse on the last note of each measure. 'Took me more time to figure out how to notate it than to actually write it!

It's grand.... I changed the instrumentation to fiddle with French Horn and orchestral harp and cello.... since we lack pipes here....

Just lovely. Powerful. Makes me want to know that man. And the maker of a tune for such a man.
