Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: THE LAST LONELY EAGLE (John Dawson From: GUEST,Sonja Date: 11 Oct 02 - 08:56 AM I didn't find this in the DT or forum, so I thought I'd post it. I learned it from an Ian and Sylvia album in the early 1980s. (THE) LAST LONELY EAGLE G Em C G Cho.: If you go down where the lights crush the night time, Cho. Subject: Lyr Add: Last Lonely Eagle (C Dawson) From: Genie Date: 03 Aug 10 - 09:30 AM I just realized that on some people's 'puters, the apostrophes in the above lyrics post are showing up as a capital O with a tilde over it. I hope that doesn't make the text too hard to read. Genie |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Last Lonely Eagle From: Midchuck Date: 03 Aug 10 - 09:34 AM I used to sing this. Learned from Ian and Sylvia's excellent recording. Have to go back and relearn the lyrics. It's another one that's too good to let get away. Especially the "...gas-powered flatlands, where most of the people just think that they're free..." Peter |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Last Lonely Eagle From: pdq Date: 03 Aug 10 - 11:04 AM Odd to see this song credited to one "C. Dawson", as it was written by John "Marmaduke" Dawson, longtime friend of Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter and David Nelson, all of whom hung out together before there was a Grateful Dead. The New Riders of the Purple Sage came out with a really good record called "Moonlight Midnight" released in 1992. This is more acoustic, the songs are really good and so is Dawson's singing. He died last year on 21 July 2009 in Mexico where he had moved in the mid 1990s. |
