Subject: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: GUEST,Richard Grant Date: 02 Sep 02 - 08:26 AM Please point me at the lyrics for the song about the Hopper Valley PTA. A single mother gets criticised for wearing her skirt too high and she shows up the local Hopper Valley PTA as a bunch of hypocrites. Great lyrics! Anyone have them? |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 02 Sep 02 - 09:02 AM Harper Valley PTA was written by - I think! - Bobbie Gentry (of Tallahatchie Bridge fame) so if the song title doesn't help you, try her name. |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: Willie-O Date: 02 Sep 02 - 09:11 AM I like that. Hopper Valley. She sings it as kind of "hahpuh valley PTA". As in "The day ma momma socked it to". Heard a radio thing about Bobbie Gentry the other day. She did grow up to Mississippi but from age 13 was in the upper-class California lifestyle, private school, studied philosophy and literature. Then embarked on a showbiz career but didn't have much success until she decided to get noticed by changing her name and really playing up the Southern thing. Tallahatchie Bridge is still one of my favourite 60's songs. Notable for the brooding Southern Gothic atmosphere, and leaving the listener to figure out what is actually going on. W-O

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 02 Sep 02 - 09:21 AM The song is not in the DT(not sure why). We've had other threads mention the song, but the one above is quite notable for Catspaw's contribution to the legend! |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 02 Sep 02 - 09:25 AM Actually to correct a few things. The link above is actually for Ode to Billy Joe by Bobby Gentry. The song in question is Harper Valley PTA by Jeannie C Riley. |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: Wolfgang Date: 02 Sep 02 - 09:50 AM Austrian singer and composer Udo Jürgens sings a German version titled "Ein ehrenwertes Haus" (aka "In diesem ehrenwerten Haus"). On his official homepage he is credited with writing the tune (several years after the American version). Hmm. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: Willie-O Date: 02 Sep 02 - 06:17 PM What really goes on in Hopper Valley, Dennis' ancestral home? I have this vision of a lot of Harleys and creepy unsavoury characters waiting for their next movie walk-on. |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Harper Valley PTA From: Genie Date: 03 Sep 02 - 01:45 AM If I change the Subject line to read "Harper Valley" instead of "Hopper Valley," for this post, will this thread turn up in a DT or Filter search for "Harper Valley PTA?" |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for Hopper Valley PTA From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Sep 02 - 06:59 PM Gee, Wolfgang, do you mean to say you're not going to post those lyrics ("Ein ehrenwertes Haus")? Genie, Jim Dixon and I have been changing message titles so they will turn up in a Forum Search if people search for the song title. If the message title says "ADDPOP," it means at least one harvester classed it as a pop song and decided not to submit it to the Digital Tradition. Still, it's available to everyone who does a Forum Search. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyrics: Hopper Valley PTA / Harper Valley PTA From: Wolfgang Date: 04 Sep 02 - 04:52 AM Joe, I'm far from being a fan of Udo Jürgens, too much Pop for my taste, but this is one his relatively better songs and if there is demand I'll post all lyrics I have (exception: Nazi songs), so here you go. I have copied and pasted the lyrics from http://www.udojuergens.de/. Wolfgang
