Subject: Good news/ bad news From: kendall Date: 25 Aug 02 - 01:00 PM I just returned home from a bluegrass festival, and, was unable to sing even one song. My doctor has put me back on voice rest. That's the bad news. Now for the good news; When I played my messages on the answering machine, there was one from Utah Phillips; he wants me to come out to California to visit. Are there any Mudcatters within a day's drive of Nevada City? What would be the nearest airport? |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: Mudlark Date: 25 Aug 02 - 02:01 PM Hi Kendall...Very sorry about the continuing voice probs...I'm sure they'll ease in time. But a visit to CA sounds like a perfect way to rest up. Nevada City is in the Sierras, I think. Nearest airport maybe Marysville or Auburn, Sacramento nearest really big airport. And should you fancy a side trip west to the coast range, I'm right off major highways, and would be very happy to put you up. I'm about half way betwn LA and SF, about 30 mi. from the sea... |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: DADGBE Date: 25 Aug 02 - 02:06 PM Hi Kendall, Ray here. Mudlark is correct, Sacramento has the closest large airport. I'm near it and can help you out with lodging, transportation, etc. If you leave me a private message with your e-mail address, we can set it up. |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: kendall Date: 25 Aug 02 - 02:33 PM This is something I have wanted to do for some years now, and, as soon as I am able to sing, I will do it. How about if I make a list of California Mudcatters, and, maybe visit some of you? |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: michaelr Date: 25 Aug 02 - 02:41 PM Joe Offer lives in Auburn (that's on the way to Nevada City) but I think he's still in England at this time. I'm west in Santa Rosa which is not real close, but hey, if you're around, let's try to get together. Chanteyranger, radriano and Dave Swan, and probably other catters, are in the San Francisco area. When are you planning to travel? Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: Mudlark Date: 25 Aug 02 - 02:49 PM Amos, of course, in San Diego, Bev and Jerry in Cambria, just a few miles from me. Can't imagine ANY mudcatter who wouldn't be thrilled to see you, Kendall...you may need to stay a while! PM me for address/directions if/when you're ready. |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: kendall Date: 25 Aug 02 - 04:42 PM Joanna suggested mid winter, but, I expect to be in Florida for the winter. So, it would either be December or spring. It depends on when I get my singing voice back. Now, really, I'm sure there are Mudcatters who couldn't care less if I'm in their neighborhood! |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: Amos Date: 26 Aug 02 - 12:38 PM Kendall: If ya fancy white sand and blue water, moderate temperatures, a bedroom of your own, and all the honey and lemon tea you can drink, just pop on down to San Diego, for as long as you like. Or make a date with Mudlark near Paso Robles and I'll drive up for a day just to pass some time witcha! Dang that voice rest!! I'd drop by and see an herbalist if I were in your shoes. There must be some healing potion or other out there will strengthen that magical larynx! A |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: Celtic Soul Date: 26 Aug 02 - 08:49 PM Sorry to hear about the ongoing issues you are suffering, but the invite is amazing. I was just thinking the other day about his dubious honor of having written "Moose Turd Pie". You have a great time with the Man! |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: Big Mick Date: 26 Aug 02 - 11:49 PM Damn, Kendall. Please tell me that you are still coming to The Getaway. Come for the fellowship, please. I have been looking forward to seeing you again, so very much. I do hope you will consider it, my friend. In all my years (25 plus) of union organizing and singing the songs of working men and women, I have never had the chance to meet Bruce "Utah" Phillips. It is something I have always wanted to do, just sit down and swap a few songs, see what we have in common. I envy you this my friend. Please, take care. Do as the Doc's tell you. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: Good news/ bad news From: kendall Date: 28 Aug 02 - 10:08 PM Actually, he didn't write Mooseturd Pie. That is an ancient folk tale which came out of the Wild River area between New Hampshire and Maine. It's at least 100 years old. Anyway, I still plan to attend the Getaway, and, I will be coming with the Patons, and Morticia! She bought her ticket a few days ago. You folks are in for a rare treat; she is a wonderful and funny lady! I just got another call from Utah, and, get this, he is going to release 60 of his songs on 4 CDs, and, he asked my permission to use MY rendition of his song,ASHES ON THE SEA. What a guy! Modesty prevents me from telling what he said to me, but, if I were not a New Englander, my head wouldn't fit through the door! Also, I am definitly going out to spend some time with him in April. If it's anything like the last time we got together, my ribs are in for another hurting session! You can't imagine how funny he is in person. I may also just pack my motor home and tour the country. If so, I'll want a list of Mudcatters to visit with in addition to the ones who have already volunteered. |
