Subject: First Impressions From: the lemonade lady Date: 15 Aug 02 - 10:51 AM When I first meet someone I think I am influenced by their eyes and smile. Mainly because when I'm in my lemonade trailer I can't see feet. If I can see the whole body (clothed of course!) I look at the face and then feet. I s'pose that's obvious by my last thread. Shoes tell me a lot about a person. What do other people look at first? |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Skipper Jack Date: 15 Aug 02 - 01:42 PM I have found that I often get it wrong - judging people by their appearance.

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Ebbie Date: 15 Aug 02 - 01:56 PM An interchange of the eyes and the warmth of the voice influence me. I meet -and guide - hundreds of tourists in a month here at this house museum. I decide fairly quickly whether each is going to be a good experience, often one that I will remember for a long time to come. Other people are often not interesting to me, mostly because they are not interested. Must admit I don't think I've ever noticed a shoe. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Genie Date: 15 Aug 02 - 02:57 PM What I notice first depends a lot on what is the most striking feature of the person. If someone is 6'9" or 3'4" or weighs 400 lb. or has brilliant flaming red hair, I will probably notice that unusual feature first. That does not mean that my feelings about him/her as a person is going to be influenced much by that. If there is no unusual physical feature, facial expressions and body language have a lot to do with catching my attention and influencing my "first impression." Hard not to notice clothing (unless it's pretty much what everyone else is wearing, like jeans and a T-shirt at a folk jam). But shoes?? |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Kim C Date: 15 Aug 02 - 03:51 PM My grandmother said she noticed teeth and shoes. See, most people are apt not to notice shoes, so most people are apt not to keep their shoes in good condition. So logically, a person who takes care of their shoes is someone who pays attention to detail. I'm usually struck by a person's energy. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: alanabit Date: 15 Aug 02 - 04:04 PM Interestingly enough, many actors see the shoes as one of the keys to building a character. They will have some effect on the way a person walks - and this influences the body language. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Davetnova Date: 15 Aug 02 - 05:20 PM I suffer from good first impressions. I seem to have the kind of look that encourages people to come up and talk to me only to find that I am a nohoper drunk with no voice, loud opinions and a bad case of foot in mouth disease. ( but I'm still sexy) |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Celtic Soul Date: 15 Aug 02 - 06:52 PM Wow! Well, a lot of things, frankly. I am an olfactory oriented person. How a person smells sometimes has a much greater impact on my first impression than does appearance. Too much cologne...ew. Not enough bathing...ew. Too much bathing...boring. A nice pleasant, natural smelling person makes for a *great* first impression in my book. From there, eyes. Smile. And, perhaps (done discretely), when the person is male and seems cute, I may take a subtle look at the derrier. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Lyrical Lady Date: 16 Aug 02 - 01:52 PM I'm very attracted to men and women who display self confidence. It's usually their energy that I find so appealing. Now ... if I was looking for a man to snuggle with... I'd look at their teeth first ... if they happen to have a great grin, play guitar and drink guinness ...BONUS! LL |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: mack/misophist Date: 17 Aug 02 - 11:10 AM A number of people above have mentioned shoes. As one who spent virtually his entire youth in situations where the shoes had to be kept well polished, I take vigorous exception. Perhaps even violent exception. My dirty, run down shoes do not indicate a lack of attention to detail or a lack of pride. They indicate my freedom to refuse to shine the damn things any more. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Kaleea Date: 18 Aug 02 - 02:59 AM I I ssee a person who is 6ft 9 in, I first notice their , uh, mid section--which exact part depends upon whether I meet them head on, or not. Unless standing upon stilts or some other thing--mayhaps a stage?--I would not be in a position to evaluate their eyes OR smile! But seriously, folks, I have been often accused of not looking at people, or perhaps of having a poor memory because I often cannot recall a person's facial features, (maybe because of my stature--or lack thereof?) I do, however somehow look inside the person. My first impression is based upon me seeing beyond their eyeballs, and into who they really are inside. I often am told, "you didn't tell me he had glasses," or You didn't say . . ." (have fun filling in the blanks!). I do seem to recall such things as if the person in question will lie, cheat, will stab one in the back; if they are happy or sad, and a few other things. Yeah, I know! Wierd!. |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Aug 02 - 08:15 AM Eyes, smile, chest and bum. Sense of humour and intelligent. Nice eyes (brown for preference but I'm not fussy), ready smile that comes from the heart not just the face, hairy chest (and other areas, although backs are not always pleasant) and a nicely rounded bum. Oh, and a sense of humour/intelect so that I don't have to keep explaining my jokes and references or my penchant for Flanders and Swann. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: First Impressions From: the lemonade lady Date: 22 Aug 02 - 01:28 PM I have to admit ........ no that's not allowed on here is it? Of course if he can sing it makes a difference - once seen on stage my heart often melts! But he's got to have his eyes open of course! |
