Subject: ADD: The Downtowner Motel (Kevin O'Donnell) From: GUEST,# Date: 06 Apr 21 - 04:42 PM That is from a post on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1Ae4DPnNzg where you can hear Lee Murdock singing the song. The Downtowner Motel THE DOWNTOWNER MOTEL (Kevin O'Donnell) Hauling all that he had, In an old canvas bag, And a duffle slung over his shoulder, Heading up Sheldon Street, The rain turns to sleet, And each step seems one degree colder. The neon sign blinks, In reds, blues, and pinks, The Downtowner Motel, He takes room seventeen, It's small, but it's clean, And a room he will come to know well.
CHORUS
So he sits in his gloom,
Through the din and the drone,
He's never claimed stakes, |

Subject: RE: ADD: The Downtowner Motel (Lee Murdock) From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Apr 21 - 05:12 PM Gee, it sounds like the motel in downtown Detroit where my Grandpa used to work in the 1960s, when he was my age. Part of the job was getting held up every few months, about three times a year. He got used to it. He just handed over the money like they told him, and he never got hurt. |
