As reported here many times, the People's Voice Folk Festival (PVFF) replaced the Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival(BERFF) for 2002 following the cancellation of BERFF. The PVFF, based on sessions and singarounds and artists booked by pubs, was a great success and many people who came thought that it should continue in future years.

It can now be announced that, following discussions with licensees, the County Council and the BERFF organisers, PVFF (now renamed the Beverley Fringe) will run again but as an integral part of the BERFF. All of the free events that we offered this year will run again alongside the top national and international artists booked for the main festival so that season ticket holders will have the choice to attend concerts etc or go to one of the free events whereas those coming for the free events will have the option to buy a ticket for individual concerts etc.

In that way we hope to offer a full range of folk related activities to suit all tastes from "back to basics" to "world music" and everyone will be happy.

Book the weekend of 20 –22nd of June 2003 in your diaries now (although we will probably be starting on Thursday 19th with a free ceilidh and pub based events).

Roger

Does this mean we all have to have a haircut too...Sir Rog? Good news glad to see 'sense' has prevailed and that this year's left wing military coup has brought about real change

What will the situation be with regards to camping ..... will that be free to all, available only to season ticket holders or on a fee for per person, per night????
Bearing in mind that it was the free camping that brought me (and many others) to the PVFF.

Not completely resolved yet but the proposal is that the Leisure Centre runs the campsite independently of the festival organisers. This way everyone will be charged a small amount to cover the cost of running it and the season tickets will be reduced in price by that amount - so there will no differential treatment of ticket holders and non ticket holders on the site.

This year we got sponsorship to cover the cost of the campsite and it may be that we will be able to do that in 2003 - but it is early days.

The main difficulty is that the campsite may not be big enough to take everyone that comes - it was pretty tight for BERFF on its own and the extra that came for PVFF this year may take the total over the limit. We are looking at overflow capacity now.

Excellent news Rog! I think that, on the whole, this is the best solution. Beverley is surely going to be the place to be next year.

If you think that the PVFF had around 100 tents, camper vans etc would we really be overflowing ? Maybe we can investigate areas around Beverley Beck for the shanty singers to camp ? However the main thing is that 'T'Fringe' is a reality.

And what is more, the programme next year will be a free handout not the £2 a time that it was previously(following the PVFF example from this year). High quality glossy but paid for through advertising for the pubs and businesses in town and available free by post or to pick up locally in the places we used to distribute this years. There will a separate section in the programme advertising the Fringe events and each pub have an ad saying what they have on.

Jim

I don't think that it will be a problem but it has been identified as a potential one.

We'll work the details out in due course but the principle has been established that the PVFF and the BERFF will work together to produce a wonderful festival for 2003.

Good news about the programme! A couple of Beverley people mentioned that the free availability of the programme was a big plus. And of course it'll save me some work!

What fantastic news, not only did we have a festival to go to this year, it stood for something as well. The efforts of the PVFF, has produced the Beverley fringe. A great achievment from local folks! Ideas for the dolphinharps & cottinghamlive websites should now be discused well ahead of time. This may seem premature, but a mailing list idea was put to me during a meeting,(and you know how time flies!) So lets get the websites up to date, and start advertising the fringe ASAP.John.
