Subject: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Genie Date: 01 Aug 02 - 01:46 AM Well, I'm not sure exactly what day last summer I first checked out Ye Olde Mudcat Café -- it was some time in July, after a friend recommended it --, but it seems my first post as an official Mudcatter was on August 1, 2001. So I just want to say it's been a really informative, fun, and worthwhile year -- even if I have spent way more time here than I should have! Thanks especially to Max, Dick G., Susan of the DT, Joe Offer, Pene Azul, Áine, Allison, Rick F. and all the Joe clones for keeping this Genie ¤:- D |

Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Marion Date: 01 Aug 02 - 02:02 AM Hi Genie. I haven't been that conscious of your presence for the last year, but you've certainly made an impression on me in the last few days with your thoughtfulness and willingness to be of help. And I've pointed your posts out to my mother as an explanation of why I find it so valuable to hang around on a website. Marion |

Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 01 Aug 02 - 09:12 AM Hi, Genie:
In my eyes, you're an old-timer. I haven't been here a year, yet. We seem to keep crossing paths on mutually interesting threads, though.
Yes, it's good to be here. After even a few months, some names become familiar and you start to feel like you know people, even if you've never p.m.d them. Some, have become friends, and I look for their names on threads and always enjoy what they've posted.
Enjoy! Jerry |

For starters I want JEn to record you and Angus at the next PNWG, doing harmony on "Waltzing with Bears" -- HIS version, please -- if the cat will let us use it on the Mudcat CD without paying through the nose in table scraps!! LOL!! Well done on surviving a year at the Cat!! You're a real asset. A |

Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Genie Date: 01 Aug 02 - 03:14 PM Gee, Jerry, I thought you were MMario, it does seem like more than a year. (Strange to think about it, but I had been logging on for only about 6 weeks when the Sept. 11 attacks occurred--and they seemed to loom large in the forum for a long time afterwards.) Amos, how about we get the whole Runamuck group to sing back up to Angus on "Waltzing With Bears?" We can take up a collection for the table scraps. ;-) Sharon, you said the magic words: Song Challenge!s Our Gaelic Goddess has a lot to do with helping catters get to know each other on line, I think. ("By your fruits shall ye be known." -- Hmmmmm. In the context of the Song Challenge!s that saying takes on a frightening new meaning! *G*) Genie |

From: An Pluiméir Ceolmhar Date: 02 Aug 02 - 11:39 AM Another sub-1-year catter here who agrees that the crack here is as good as you'll find in any café. It's a slightly odd feeling to begin to know, to appreciate, to respect and even regard in some small way as friends, people of whom I've only met a handful and most of whom I'll surely never meet. There really is such a thing as a virtual community, and the good folks whom I've met here more than compensate for the small percentage of a******s who spread their poison posting as GUEST [anon]. Thanks for the company. Roger |

Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Genie Date: 02 Aug 02 - 01:19 PM Roger, greetings to another relative newbie! But I thought that was spelled "craic." (Or did you mean the other kind? *G*) I fully echo your sentiments about the Mudcat virtual community. Just look what poesy hath sprung full blown from the venerable pates of MMario, Amos, and Willa, on the heels of mine own casual Biblical allusion. Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Bobert Date: 02 Aug 02 - 09:16 PM Congrates, Genie. Think you got my boney Wes Ginny butt beat by a few months. When I first read one of your posts I thought you were one of the, how to say it... ahhhh, old timers. Hey, that just means that you have the old timers wisdom and worldliness that some of the "real" ol' catfolk have. Actually, I was wonderin' how you did it 'cause you don't look a day over 17 to me.... Hmmmmmm? So, to you, Genie... Here's hoping you many many more years of scratching litter here in the box... (Clink...) Bobert |
|
Subject: RE: BS: One Year At Mudcat -- and loving it! From: Genie Date: 03 Aug 02 - 01:29 AM Well, Bobert, when I was a teenager I thought folks of my current (quasi-venerable) age were ANCIENT! I guess, in Mudcatter terms, I'm kinda middle-aged. (Don't tell anyone, but I'm the same age as Sir Paul McCartney, give or take a few months.) Thanks for the good thoughts. (And keep writing those songs. You're doing great.) Amos, that beard you had a few months ago just screamed "Pull me! Pull me!" But ya went and trimmed the danged thaing, so ya doesn't look like Gabby Hayes any more! MMario, my calling you folks "old" would be a bit ironic (but, to paraphrase the old joke, "if the foo sh*ts..."). Amos is a mere child by comparison. ;- ) Genie |
