I just got back from visiting my folks in northern New York. ( BOY - it was sure a lot hotter than being home up here in Alaska!! ) Anyway, I was playing guitar with my Dad, who was reminiscing about old songs that he'd forgotten how to play. He sighed wistfully, and said that he'd been trying to remember a song that he used to love called "The Waltz Of The Winds". He sang a little snatch for me - as much as he could muster, and I'm in hopes that maybe someone can help me put the song, plus chords and melody together in time for me to sing it for him over the phone on his birthday. (The end of July)

Here are the lyrics he could remember -

It was there that I knew That I'd love you forever As we danced to the waltzing of the winds.

The stars up above you looked down in your eyes And told me the night would never end.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me.

Love, Robin

You could subscribe to Fiddler Magazine, it's in the Summer '99 issue.
You can also listen to tracks and buy a CD here CLICK!
It appears to be a Slovak tune, according to this site and has apparently been recorded by Led Kaapaana w/ Allison Krause ® on an album by the same name.

I haven't searched for lyrics yet; I'll go do that now.

Is this it? Recorded by Hank Williams:

THE WALTZ OF THE WIND

[C] You were there in my arms [F] alone in the [C] moonlight
The trees played the waltz of the [G] wind
It was [C] there I knew I'd [F] love you [C] forever
As we danced to the [G] waltz of the [C] wind

The [F] stars up [C] above you look [G] down in your [C] eyes
And [F] there in the [C] moonlight I [G] knew
So [C] I'll say goodbye [F] dear till [C] tommorrow
Till we dance to the [G] waltz of the [C] wind

[Repeat entire]

I have this song on an old 78 that was part of my father's collection. The recording artist was none other than the late great Roy Acuff...probably 40,s vintage...

There are two transcriptions at Cowpie (search for "waltz of the wind" in the Search the Song Corral box - wind singular), one from a recording by Hank Williams, one from a recording by Roy Acuff. The song was written (according to both) by Fred Rose.
