Subject: West Chester Folk Music From: NoMattch Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:26 PM I understand that this website has some roots in West Chester, PA. I'm soon to be a resident there and I'm hoping that someone has info on where to see folk music in the area. Thanks in advance. |

Subject: RE: West Chester Folk Music From: Max Date: 25 Jun 02 - 04:29 PM Oh boy, you'll have to give me a call when you get to town, I'll show you around. As for the scene, I know a good bit of what goes on in the general area, but I think MaryMac knows even more. I'll see if I can come up with a list of what I know... When you get here, they'll be 4 known folkies in town. That's a movement. |

Subject: RE: West Chester Folk Music (US) From: NoMattch Date: 25 Jun 02 - 10:46 PM Thanks, Max. I actually work in West Chester and I'm only moving from Philly. I'm hoping that there are some decent folk/Irish/Blugrass venues in or near town. Haven't found any on my own yet. I'll even settle for some street busking. |

Subject: RE: West Chester Folk Music (US) From: Mark Cohen Date: 25 Jun 02 - 11:06 PM And in case anybody was wondering, West Chester is the county seat of Chester County, but Chester is the county seat of Delaware County. They're about 15 miles apart. (The reason for that is that Delaware County used to be part of Chester County. Aren't you glad you know that?) Aloha, Mark (ex-Philadelphian, once lived in Swarthmore and worked in Chester, and I've actually been to West Chester once or twice. Nice town.) |

Subject: RE: West Chester Folk Music (US) From: Max Date: 26 Jun 02 - 12:12 PM The Mudcat sits in the dining room of an apartment in downtown West Chester, yes... as do I. Nice little town. There is a coffee shop in town here that lets me busk inside, and I've busked on the streets before. Didn't do as good as I did at Penn State, but I wasn't doing it for the money, I was doing it for nostalgia. The coffee shop is called Fenarios. Run by a bunch of hippies. I'd be glad to introduce you. They're on North Church, and I live on South Church. Anyway, NoMattch, give me a call and we'll make a scene. 610-738-9050 |

Subject: RE: West Chester Folk Music (US) From: NoMattch Date: 26 Jun 02 - 03:16 PM Will do, Max. I'll be pretty local...5 blocks down on Everhart Street. Thanks again. I think I may have met you and Bert at Brittinghams in Lafayette Hill a while back...not sure. Ollie McElhone was playing that night. With all this Mudcat folk power being generated out of West Chester, I think it's only fair to have a folk pub on the main drag. I can't wait to illustrate my strategy to the local tappies! |
