Subject: Good luck for 7 June Hille! From: mooman Date: 06 Jun 02 - 04:14 AM I'm putting this thread up as a reminder and because Hille is probably too modest to do it herself. It's particularly aimed at anyone within striking distance of Worthing, Sussex, UK. Hille has been involved in starting up a new Folk Club in Worthing and has booked her first paid guest, Lee Collinson, for tomorrow evening (7 June). For those who don't know him, Lee is one of the finest guitarists around today (Eric the Viking correct me if I'm wrong!) and a smashing singer to boot with a great range of material. Details are as follows (I'm assuming the starting time must be around 8pm). I'm sure Hille will correct me if I'm wrong: Lee Collinson Friday 7 June 2002 What the Dickens Open Stage Club Charles Dickens pub (real ales) Heene Road Worthing, Sussex Entry £4 As someone mentioned in another thread and which I liked! "Be there if you can or be a complex polyhedron!" Good luck with the club and gig Hille! All the best, mooman |

Fingers crossed (Aaagh!) - managed to get a big write up in the local paper last week and this week (but no calls for 'further info' - I'll let you know after tomorrow!
There's a pop up on www.folkandroots.co.uk in the events section on Lee which gives my contact details if anyone needs directions.
Thanks again Mooman xxx

Subject: RE: Good luck for 7 June Hille! From: chouxfleur Date: 06 Jun 02 - 07:21 AM Lee Collinson? well if you live in Sussex and are interested in THE finest acoustic guitarist currently in the UK that almost no-one has heard of, then you simply have to get to The Charles Dickens, in Worthing for 6pm and make sure you bag the best seat in the house.....cos I shall be there at 6.01pm...He's a bloody nice bloke as well. I've seen Lee on three or four occasions over the last year or so, and had him guest at my club, The Harbour Sessions, and he has been simply brilliant every time. They just dont come any better. chouxfleur |

Dear chouxfleur, Amen to that! All best regards, mooman |

Subject: RE: Good luck for 7 June Hille! From: GUEST,Hille Date: 10 Jun 02 - 02:46 PM Hi y'all (n 'ullo Paul from 'ull! :) Well, Lee did us proud despite not having picked up a guitar for 4 weeks (I couldn't tell!) and telling some really very (VERY!) rude jokes (only 2 people walked out) :) (And he was so quiet and well behaved at Harbour Sessions when I first saw him!) He did a broad selection from his albums and threw in some new stuff including one song by Dave Woods - who was at this guitar weekend in Buxton recently - lovely song - well, it was all excellent! I was especially chuffed that despite only attracting 27 full paying guests (plus the usual Open Mic suspects) they were all new to the club, had read the publicity and thought Lee sounded interesting - resultant absolute rapt attention from everyone and big rush for CDs at the end. And bumping into people the next day who'd never been to the club telling me how much they'd enjoyed it! Great result!! Oh, and Mooman your friend, can't remember his name, from Pulborough came along too and had a good time... Feedback was that Lee was an excellent choice (well, no choice really :) ) for a first guest - think he gave a few musicians something to think about!! Lee is playing next at Chichester Folk Club, The Gribble Inn on 25 June I think it is! Thanks for all your support and interest everyone! Now, how do you think the Ukelele Orchestra of GB will go down next? :) Love, Hille xx

Subject: RE: Good luck for 7 June Hille! From: mooman Date: 10 Jun 02 - 05:51 PM Great to hear that it went well Hille... 27 new people to the club is a good result and I'm glad Lee did you proud...I'd have expected little else! I hope the rude jokes weren't ones I had told him! My friend from Pulborough would be Phil Gravett, another fine guitar player who taught me a fair bit of delta blues but I don't know whether he played anything on Friday. I'm so glad you had a good start with your first guest to the club and long may the club flourish! Love mooman xx |

Subject: RE: Good luck for 7 June Hille! From: Nemesis Date: 11 Jun 02 - 07:50 AM FB: thanks for the reminder about George (useful publicity starting point!!) Hi Mooman! Thanks so much for your support (there was some great 'rootin' for the club- the Famous Willows (Chris and Trish) - no transport - but spent all evening sending good vibes! Now, was it your joke about the post-nuptial breakfast and slices of toast? Or the even more gruesome one about gynaeocological 'Num-ing'? (Harbour Sessions have a sign 'NFD' ie. No 'Folking' Dirges - guess ours will have to be 'NGG' (No Gynaey Gags) :) |
