Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Three rusty nails From: paddymac Date: 05 May 02 - 05:23 AM "Three Rusty Nails" is the start of a bad drunk and a hellacious hangover. If you're not familiar with them, a "Rusty Nail" is usually equal parts of Scotch and Drambuie on ice. One is enjoyable; "more" is deadly. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THREE OLD RUSTY NAILS From: masato sakurai Date: 27 Jun 07 - 08:55 PM From here: THREE OLD RUSTY NAILS (Verse 1) He came from Galilee, carpenter by trade, Came to build His Father's church, on plans, that they had made. His destinity was calvary, His mission would not fail, He would build His church, on a rugged cross, and three old rusty nails. (Chorus)..... This church is still standing, and it will never fall, Bloodstain it's foundation, and faith put up it walls, Though the world, may come against it, they will not prevail, He built, this church, on a rugged cross, and three old rusty nails. (Verse 2) Bricks and stones, themselves alone, aren't everything it takes, To build a church, that will stand so strong, when this old world begins to shake. A fool may build his building tall, but it will be so frail, Compared to this church Jesus build, with three old rusty nails. Note from Joe Offer - I believe this song was written by Bret Walton. 8 March 2012 |

He came to build His Father's house on plans They had made. His destiny was Calvary. His mission would not fail. He built His church on a rugged cross with three old rusty nails. CHORUS: This church is still standing and it will never fall. Blood stained its foundation and faith put up its walls. Though all the world may come against it, they will not prevail. He built His church on a rugged cross with three old rusty nails. Sticks and stones themselves alone aren't everything it takes To build this church that'll stand so strong when this old world begins to shake. Subject: Lyr Add: THE THREE NAILS From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jun 07 - 02:44 PM Gene's June 27 post referred to a song "currently being played on radio" - I was wondering if somebody could post the lyrics to that one. Peace posted a link to the Google cache of an ezboard.com message, and I thought it worthwhile to post the entire text of the message. If came from somebody named "Kingdom Builder," dated April 2, 2007. Hi y'all! Praise the Lord! I heard a lady sing this the other day. I can't type in the notes, chords or even play the song for y'all but I just want to share with you this song sung & written by Jimmie Davis & include first, a story that goes along with it. I am not sure whether or not if he also wrote this story which is also titled The Three Nails just like the song: The Three Nails "I was proud to have my name up over the door." It was some two thousand years ago, as I recall, Located in Jerusalem, across the street from Pilate's hall. I thought I had everything anyone would need, And folks would come from miles around, regardless of the creed. The only thing I had I didn't think I could ever sell, Was in a corner on a shelf--three old rusty spike nails. And then one day a big Roman soldier came through the door. As he walked up to me it seemed he shook the floor. I said, "Can I help you sir?" With a voice I guess seemed frail. He looked at me with a sneering grin and said, "I want to buy some big, big nails." "Three old rusty spikes is all I have." I said and he said to me, "That will do for the job I have, now how much do I owe you?" He put the money in my hand and I was glad to make the sale. Then I wondered and asked him, "Sir, what can you do with just three nails?" He said, "Did you ever hear of a man called Jesus the Nazarene?" I said "You mean the one who goes around doing good?" He said, "Yes, that's the man!" Then he said, "Well, today I intend to show the world that I am boss, For with these three old rusty spikes I am going to nail Jesus to the cross." I stood there almost numb--you'll never know how I felt. I said, "Please sir, don't do that!" as on my knees I knelt. He just turned and walked away, and I got up and followed him. I said, "Please sir, I'll buy them back!" But he just looked at me and grinned. But in a distance I could see the howling mob through the tears that filled my eyes. "Away with Him!" "Crucify Him!" I could hear their angry cries. Over the top of all the noise and groans of agony, I could hear the sound of the hammer as that big Roman soldier nailed Jesus to a tree. (These following words were sung by Jimmie) The Three Nails "I love you, I love you!" That's what Calvary said: "I love you, I love you! I love you!" Written in red. With three rusty nails They nailed Jesus to the tree The sun turned to darkness on that day 'Twas the day that Jesus died And the blood flowed from His side, The blood that washed my sins away! And with that blood Jesus says I love you, I love you That's what Calvary said I love you, I love you I love you written in red Jesus cried forgive them Lord For they know not what they do For they have strayed so far, far away With three old rusty nails They took Jesus' precious blood The blood that washed my sins away And with that blood Jesus says I love you, I love you That's what Calvary said I love you, I love you I love you written in red They laughed as He cried Soldiers pierced His naked side And His Father turned His face away They drove the nails so deep Spilled His blood and made Him weep And with that blood Jesus says I love you, I love you That's what Calvary said I love you, I love you I love you written in red Thanks for letting me share this song about Jesus as He is the real Easter risen and alive and well it is our job to go and tell!!! namethathymn.com has what appears to be a more complete version of the first song in this post, but I question the attribution to Jimmie Davis. Bear Family Records has a $133 box set titled Big Midnight Special by Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper. That box set has a song titled "The Story Of The Three Nails" - I'm wondering if the lyrics below are the Wilma Lee-Stoney Cooper song:
This is a story of long ago of a man who owned a little store. As he would tell it, "I was proud to have my name above the door." This took place, oh, about two thousand years ago, as I recall, I was located in Jerusalem, just across the street from Pilate's hall. And I had everything anyone would ever need; Why, folks would come from miles around, regardless of their creed. But there was only one thing I had I thought would never sell, So I placed it in a corner on a shelf ----three old rusty spike nails. Then one day a Roman soldier came through the door, And as he walked up to me, it seemed he shook the floor. I said, "Can I help you, Sir?" in a voice I 'm sure seemed frail. He looked at me with a sneering grin and said, "I'd like to buy some nails - some big, big nails." "Well, you see, Sir, three's all I have." "Oh, That'll do. For the job I have, three's enough - - -Now how much do I owe you?" He placed the money in my hand, and I was glad to make the sale. Then I began to wonder, and I asked, "Sir, what can you do with just three spike nails?" "Did you ever hear of a man called Jesus the Nazarene?" "You mean the one they call the Son of God?" "Yes, that's the one. Today I intend to show the world who's boss, For with these three nails I'm going to nail that man Jesus to a cross." You'll never know how numb I felt - as on my knees I fell. "Please sir, don't do that!" - but he just turned and walked away I said, "Please, let me buy them back!" But he just looked at me and grinned. And in the distance, I could see the howling mob through the tears that filled my eyes. "Away with him" "Crucify him!" I could hear their angry cries. But over the top of all the noise and groans of agony, I can still hear the sound of a hammer as that big Roman soldier---Nailed my Jesus to a tree." With three rusty nails, they nailed Jesus to a tree; And His blood washed my sins away. Written by Jimmie Davis Oh, and paddymac, I had five rusty nails one memorable evening in Santa Barbara in 1978. The next morning was even worse. Felt like my mouth was stuffed with cotton....

Subject: ADD: Three rusty nails (Bowman) From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jun 07 - 03:22 PM gospelmusic.org.uk has two versions of chords for Ronnie Bowman's 1998 Sugar Hill recording (album title is Man I'm Tryin to Be). Three Rusty Nails Words and music: R. Bowman, J.Nettuno, T. Campbell
In the chorus on the phrase, "he was the one" lift your finger on that b string in the A chord on the word "was"...there's a lot of that on this song in all the chords, it's country sweet...Enjoy |

Subject: ADD: Three Rusty Nails (Ronnie Bowman) From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jun 07 - 03:59 PM I really don't like reading lyrics with chords interspersed, and they mess up search functions. Here's the Ronnie Bowman song with chords removed, a consolidation of lyrics from my post above, cleansed of the most glaring mistakes (but still of questionable accuracy). Three Rusty Nails Words and music: R. Bowman, J.Nettuno, T. Campbell Two thousand years ago, you sent your son, you wanted us to understand That whosoever would believe in him, would be safe in his hands Chorus With three rusty nails and an old dogwood tree The sacrifice was made for you and me We were afraid to say that he was the one. What have we done to your son? Oh how it hurts when someone laughs at you, Their words can cut you like a knife. Just think of all the shame we put him through Guess he gave more than his life Chorus Well, we know not what we do, we know not what we say; We'll never know the price he paid to take our sins away. Chorus With three rusty nails and an old dogwood tree |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Three rusty nails From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 30 Jun 07 - 04:27 PM "The Three Nails" is a Southern Gospel favorite. The Jimmie Davis copyright is 1970. It appears on the albums "The Best of Jimmie Davis," 1979; "Sixteen Great Southern Gospel Classics, Vol. 3", 2003; and others. Jimmie Davis wrote or recast many southern gospel favorites, including " To My Mansion in the Sky," "The Three Nails," "For My Journey Now," "He Wrote My Name in Blood," etc. The "Story of the Three Nails" is by Benson and Hess; recently re-recorded in the big box "Big Midnight Special," Wilma Lee and Stony Cooper. The two songs are combined in several internet postings and, seemingly, in the Lee and Cooper box set which I don't have. "Three Rusty Nails" is a separate song by Ronnie Bowman, recorded 1998. There are about 10 other songs about the nails; see listings in Allmusic.com. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Three Rusty Nails From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Mar 12 - 04:27 PM Hello, hi flier- We're talking about several "Rusty Nails" songs in this thread. All of them are too maudlin for my taste and my theological perspective - but we're here to provide music information, whether we like the songs or not. The lyrics for this particular song are posted above. I haven't found sheet music, but you can find an "accompaniment cd" at http://www.christianbook.com (click). I guess the "accompaniment cd" is for Christian Karaoke, or something. Seems funny that the accompaniment is so easy to find, but not the sheet music. It appears that the "came from Galilee" song titled "Three Rusty Nails" was most famously recorded by Mike Purkey, pastor of Lenexa Christian Center in Lenexa, Kansas. If you contact Mike Purkey Ministries, http://www.mikepurkey.org/, I'm sure they can tell you how to get sheet music. I think it's Mike Purkey singing the song on this YouTube Video. Like I say, it doesn't jive with my theological perspective, but I can see how people like him - check out this video. Although the song is identified with Purkey, whose recording calls it "Three Rusty Nails", this page (click) quite definitively says that the song is titled "Three Old Rusty Nails" and was written by Bret Walton. I'm sure you can find out how to get sheet music at http://www.bretwalton.com. Walton's recording of "Three Old Rusty Nails" at MySpace. -Joe Offer- |
