Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: Phil Cooper Date: 30 Mar 02 - 11:18 PM I played on one once. Not being all that familiar with electrics, nothing about it said, "buy me." I wound getting an Ibanez strat copy instead (with a peavey amp). I sold the guitar eventually because I thought electrics sounded a bit thin played by themselves and I couldn't find anyone in my immediate area to play it with. Also didn't play it enough to make sense of using the tone and pick up combinations. So, I've pretty much stuck with acoustics ever since. |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: 53 Date: 30 Mar 02 - 11:26 PM You're right, an electric is better played with more guitars, so that is why I play my acoustics and my classical a lot more than the electrics. |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Mar 02 - 12:29 AM Here's the site for Peavey Products.........A local band that's been around for about 30 years is using all Peavey stuff right now.......sounds okay. There amps are in pretty wide usage and have been for a long while. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: GUEST,John Of The Hill Date: 31 Mar 02 - 12:38 AM How about Peavey acoustics? I have one of the Finnish built dreadnoughts from the Landola-Peavey agreement. An excellent value and a fine sounding instrument. Peavey has since gone to an Asian contractor, the few I've tried have been less than impressive. John |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: 53 Date: 31 Mar 02 - 09:01 PM Peavey used to make a guitar called the Ecoustic and they weren't worth a toot. |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: 53 Date: 20 Apr 02 - 10:39 PM I watched a special tonite on CMT and I saw Jeff Cook of Alabama playing an old Peavey guitar. Boy thats been 20 years ago. |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: BlueJay Date: 21 Apr 02 - 03:28 AM I've played a few Peavey electrics, and no acoustics. I'm unimpressed. I believe they are actually made by Samick, who makes most of the other cheap guitars on the market. I think they probably sell more amplifiers than guitars, and with the amps I'm also not impressed. And I don't even think they have a price advantage over very good acoustic amps by Ultrasound and Carvin. What really pisses me off about the Peavey pricks is how they try to dominate the market. I've seen a few music stores that sell nothing but Peavey amplifiers, (not so much guitars, that's out of their league). But the store can't often sell any other brand of amplifier. Some kind of exclusive deal for budding music stores. I wouldn't buy a Peavey 25 cent flat pick. Thanks, BlueJay |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: GUEST,jonesey Date: 21 Apr 02 - 08:46 AM The electrics I've found to be adequate to excellent. Just about like the 'pacific rim' knockoffs. Though at this point I'd venture Aria, Alvarez, and Ibanez have been in the market place long enough to no longer be considered 'knock offs' in the negative sense, but that's another thread. Haven't tried their acoustics as I'm 'really' fussy about 'my baby'. Been in love with the sound of the acoustic guitar for years and take great offense to mediocrity. When an acoustic 'looks' like a cheapo I wont even pull it off the wall. Have a Peavey Dual 212, 130 watts w/bookmatched tubes and other than weighing about 200 lbs. this thing is a 'hoss'. I'm not 'crazy' about the distortion channel, but clean this is the best sounding amp(of the 'twin' configuations)I've ever heard. It's got a tube pre-amp which sets it apart from most modern designs. I use it for elec., acous., mando, and banjo so it's got to be versatile and it is. If you find one and can get it cheap have a flight case built for it w/casters because otherwise you're going to pay the chiropractor, I guarantee it! |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: 53 Date: 21 Apr 02 - 03:06 PM I have a Reno 400 amp for acoustic guitar that I bought in 1985 and I would not trade it for the world, as far as their guitars go I had a Fury bass and I kept it about a year. They should just make amps and things and stay out of the guitar business. I also have a Classic 50 tweed amp thats great also. Bob |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: C-flat Date: 22 Apr 02 - 10:47 AM The other thing about Peavey amps is their durability. They are a popular choice with many working bands because they can take life on the road without dropping to bits. I still use a Peavey combo but, as I'm not into working as hard as I once did, I'm thinking of looking for something more portable. The Marshall AVT100 looks favourite at the moment. |

Subject: RE: Peavey Guitars From: GUEST,jonesey Date: 22 Apr 02 - 12:55 PM Yes 53, well said. They should just make amps and stay out of the rest of it, although I just saw a 150 watt, 4 channel pa system that looks pretty interesting. The speakers/board clip together and can be carried in one hand with the speaker/mixer/mic stands carried in the other. Very portable and you can add power and speakers/monitors as needed. Oops!, sorry guys...wrong thread. |
