A Little Town Called Tønder
(Eric Bogle)

Thank you for the music
It flows through my blood like wine
Now you go home to those you love
And I'll go back to mine
But I want you all to know
I've had a very, very good time
In Denmark in a little town called Tønder

Tomorrow morning I'll be leaving Tønder
Seems like only yesterday that I got here
To all my friends out there, I'm gonna miss you
Leaving gets a little harder every year

Now I ain't one for thinking of the future
I've never bothered much with where or when
For who knows where the road is gonna lead you
And who knows if we'll ever meet again

(From Susannes´s Folksong-Notizen.

~Masato

To the best of my knowledge it hasn't been recorded anywhere, certainly not by Iain MacKintosh. I taped it live (please don't tell Carsten, anyone!) from Eric at the Tonder Visemollen.

Iain does do another song about Tonder. All I can remember is the line that goes: "Christmas comes twice a year in Tonder, there's the big one then the wee one in December." Unfortunately I don't think that it has been recorded either:-(

Jock, I don't think so either. But if you're desperate I might be able to drag the words from some corner of my tape rack ...

What I'd like is to keep hearing Iain sing it for many years to come; unfortunately he doesn't gig very often these days and he is looking rather old and frail. Mind you, he is still a tremendous performer when he does gig.

Jock, I'm with you there! He still does come to Tonder, though, and I'm hoping to see him there in August. What about you?

Phil Cunningham has also written a tune 'Tonder an eternal friendship' I think it is called.

Any other tonderfied songs or tunes out there?

Cheers, Sam

P.S Tonder ROCKS!!

Please enlighten me - is there a folk festival in Tonder?

I used to live in Hamburg, and drive through Tonder frequently on the way to Jutland. Never stopped there, though...

Cheers,
Michael
