Subject: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: katlaughing Date: 10 Mar 02 - 05:05 AM In searching google for a different song's lyrics, I came across this American Government Links which led me to a funny song about a poor little "Bill" waiting to make it through Congress on this page. Thought some might enjoy one or both.:-) kat |

Subject: RE: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: GUEST,Dani Date: 05 Nov 09 - 09:29 PM Some of us grew up on Schoolhouse Rock! And were surprised to learn when she died recently that Blossom Dearie contributed! "Conjunction Junction, what's your function? Hookin' up cars and making 'em run right" Dani |

Subject: RE: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: VirginiaTam Date: 06 Nov 09 - 04:12 PM I loved schoolhouse rock too. weren't they squeezed between saturday morning cartoons and sometimes shown during commercial breaks of after school specials? How much better use of kidtime air time than endless ads for junk food and must have toys. |

Subject: RE: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: Ruth Archer Date: 06 Nov 09 - 04:22 PM I ADORED Schoolhouse Rock. I still know the preamble of the constitution as a result. Other favourites included Interplanet Janet, A Noun is a Person Place or Thing, Three is a Magic Number...I could go on. I thought it was "Conjunction Junction, what's your function? Hookin' up words and phrases and clauses..." Dani, I didn't know that! But I'd bet cash money that Blossom Dearie was the voice on I Unpacked My Adjectives. Didn't they turn Schoolhouse Rock into an off-Broadway show a few years ago? |

Subject: RE: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 07 Nov 09 - 11:55 AM Another one here who grew up on Schoolhouse Rock. You've hit a couple of my favorites already: Interplanet Janet, Conjunction Junction and the one that started the thread. I'll also toss "Interjections!" into the mix. Some friends of mine in Canada do a fairly-straight cover of it (though I think they added one "Star Trek"-inspired verse), especially if they're doing a kids' concert. I also know of one medieval-themed parody. Not sure about a Broadway show, but I think there was a CD a few years back with a bunch of rock-n-roll covers. -- Gary |

Subject: RE: I'm Just A Bill -gov. song & great link From: Melissa Date: 07 Nov 09 - 08:01 PM SchoolHouse Rock had an anniversary a few years ago..probably around the time the rock cd came out. There was also a dvd of the originals released around the same time (money well-spent!) Everyone in my class passed the Constitution Test (first year it was given..we were the first batch to have to take it) and there was a LOT of humming in the room. SchoolHouse Rock hit at a perfect time in our schooling (although I think we were a couple years older than the intended audience) It's funny to think how often we got in trouble (as high schoolers) for doing things like singing 'Elbow Room' when we got too crowded..or whichever song fit the occasion. At the same time, there were other educational commercial things that played during Saturday morning cartoons. Yuck Mouth ('cause I don't brush) and the guy who hankered for a hunk of cheese. Blossom Dearie did 'Figure 8' |
