I believe the version you are referring to was recorded by The Spinners.

Games People Play
By Joe South

This is how Dick Gaughan sings it on A Different Kind of Love Song. I think it's a lot closer to the way Joe South sang it when he had the hit with it than the version JustaPicker linked to.

The games people play, now
Every night and every day, now
Never meaning what they say, now
And never saying what they mean
For they while away the hours
In their ivory towers
Till they cover them with flowers
In the back of a black limousine

la da la da da da da,
la da da da da de,
I'm a talkin' about you and me
and the games people play

Well, we make one another cry
We break a heart and say goodbye
We cross our hearts and we hope to die
That the other was to blame
Neither one of us will give in
And you know it's a sin
When you think of things
That might have been
It's a goddam shame

(repeat chorus)

People walkin' right up to ya
Singing "Glory Hallelujah"
And they try to sock it to ya
In the name of the Lord
And they teach you how to meditate
Read your horoscope and seal your fate
And it's almost "To hell with hate" -
Come on brother, get on board

(repeat chorus)

So look around, tell me what do you see
What is happening to you and me
God gave us the serenity
But he said "remember who I am"
For you've thrown away our sanity
Your pride and your vanity
You've turned your back on humanity
And you don't give a damn

I agree that what Jeri posted is far closer to what Joe South recorded. However, the lines below:

God gave us the serenity
But he said "remember who I am"

I remember to have been:

God grant me the serenity
To remember who I am
