This is to say thanks for the advice. Recently there was a thread someone asking for advice abut the Derring goodtime banjo. (I couldn't find the thread) Anyway some of you mentioned the Saga SS 10 open back banjo. Now I play a lot of living history events where the weather is fickle & such & I needed a quality banjo that looked right & that I wouldn't be afraid to take to such events. The Saga SS 10 is perfect for my needs & I wouldn't have know about it if you grand folks at Mudcat hadn't mentioned it. Thanks Charcloth

Charcloth,

I hope you're not saying it's better than your last banjo!!!

Not to worry Steve, it just suits my needs better. A clear banjo head don't look right for a historical type camp. And a lighter weight is easier to tote around the camp

Hi Char.

Believe it was me who touted it so highly. I will never again recommend the Good Times banjo to students. It's ok and was the only cheap decent new frailer around for three or four years...BUT... The Saga cuts it to pieces. Good move.

Rick

You know Char, just so nobody thinks I'm dumping on deering, which is a great company...it's simply a matter of stability. The saga is SOLID, man, SOLID! Has a bit more "old Tymey" sound as well.

Rick

You know just for comparison purposes I wish I had picked up a Chanterelle student model to look at.(I own a Chanterelle Standard)But when I picked up the Saga SS 10 I KNEW it was what I was looking for. It has a brighter sound than my Chanterelle but hasn't lost the old time qualty. Well enough said Thanks again
Charcloth
