Subject: Movie-An Everlasting Piece From: DougR Date: 13 Feb 02 - 08:16 PM I just watched a very funny movie shot in Ireland titled, "An Everlasting Piece." It was directed by Barry Levenson, and is a bit unusual in that it is a comedy set in Belfast smack-dab in the middle of the "Troubles" in the 1980's. I thought it had a very good message too, though it was not flaunted. The Soundtrack is outstanding too, I thought. I think some really fine films are being made in Ireland these days, and wondered if any of our Irish Mudcatters could recommend their favorites to us. Or perhaps other Mudcatters could recommend their favorites regardless of where they live. DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Movie-An Everlasting Piece From: GUEST,karen Date: 14 Feb 02 - 01:29 PM I saw this advertised as a trailor to another film and kept it in the back of my mind as a "must rent". What a great film! "The Commitments" is another great film. Surprized it did not come up yet. It is about a group of musicians. |

Subject: RE: BS: Movie-An Everlasting Piece From: GUEST,Den at work Date: 15 Feb 02 - 09:29 AM Yeah Everlasting Piece was'nt bad, I liked the scene about herpes (hair piece). Another one I saw lately also set in the north was "The Most Fertile Man in Ireland" which was pretty funny. A couple to watch, if you want to sit down and watch something with the kids are, "the Secret of Roan Inish and Into the West" (your not doing the breathing). "The Matchmaker", isn't bad and there's always "The Waking of Ned Devine". Another couple I liked were "In the name of the Father" and You, Me and Marley". "The Commitments", for me is a classic, but then the other two parts of the Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle were made into movies and are also pretty good (The Snapper and The Van). I'll come up with more later, Den. |

Subject: RE: BS: Movie-An Everlasting Piece From: Steve Latimer Date: 15 Feb 02 - 09:46 AM A friend of mine saw this the other night and told me it's a must see. There have been some wonderful Irish movies, many have been mentioned here already. I thought that "The Field" with Richard Harris was great, but it sure was depressing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Movie-An Everlasting Piece From: DougR Date: 15 Feb 02 - 04:30 PM Thanks, Den! I have seen all of those you named except "The Most Fertile Man in Ireland," and "You, me and Marley." I'll try to find them to rent. Yes, "The Field" was depressing, but very good, I thought. More suggestions, please? DougR |
