I've just come across these guys recently!

Brilliant!

Their album "Lost Lady Found" is reviewed at Pay The Reckoning's Reviews Page.

The band themselves can be reached at www.firebrand.org.uk.

Remind me of a more mellow Dervish. Great fiddling, flute playing, cittern playing, harps, double bass and vocals.

I agree! They were brilliant live at our club some time back and equaly good on repeat listenings of their Kyng Horn album.

Cheers

Certainly sounds excellent going by the review. I've yet to hear the group but as luck would have it, Pete the fiddler endend up in a session I go to last week or the week before so I've at least heard part of them and had been thinking of getting something of thiers on CD to listen to! I really must get this CD...

I've enjoyed reading the reviews BTW - something I don't normally bother doing (perhaps becuase I am too fixed in my own views). Apart from seing McGrath getting such a good one, I was pleased to see Denny Bartley getting a good one - he is quite a singer! and as for the old Bothy Band 1975, what can anyone say, or add, except it should be "compulsory" listening...

Jon

Jon ...

The reviews of "classic" stuff like 1975 was just to pump-prime the reviews section ... as time wore on, newly-released indie recordings started winging Pay The Reckoning's way. And that was that PTR really intended to be as regards reviews ... be another spot where bands/artists could publicise independently produced material to the type of people who're likely to be interested in their music.

The Firebrand stuff's truly excellent ... Pete's fiddling is a treat ...

And I was pleased to hear Denny Bartley's material ... his "Seven Curses" and "Blind Harper" are phenomenal.

(And here's another thumbs up to McGrath!)

Pass on my good wishes!

(And while you're at it ... direct them to my Original Tunes site ... they might find a few bits and pieces to tickle their fancy ... as might any Mudcatter with Irish trad leanings ... Original Tunes via Pay The Reckoning
