Subject: Snow in Southern California From: Susan from California Date: 29 Jan 02 - 09:34 PM Holy cow! We had snow today in my part of SoCal! It hasn't snowed here in 10 years, and it melted as soon as it hit the ground, but it was fun! I quit working on T'ang China with my 7th graders and we went out and danced in the floating flakes. Then after about 5 mins, we were cold so we went back inside. I hear NYC is unseasonably warm, January thaw time?? |

No snow, rain, etc. to speak of all winter (so far). A few small flurries but nothing that "stuck" or added to ground water. Going to be a long, dry summer. Probably HOT too, like last year, but even less water. No clue what we'll do, other than not water and have no gardens/lawns. |

This of course leaves all the innocent space cadets stalled and skidded out all over the freeways which is making a 20 minute drive take 50 minutes in some areas. Historical!! And last week and last month.Had about 2 foot on the ground in the front yard until it got rained on. Now it's about a foot deep with more on the way. Where,you say? North Idaho. It was nice and clear yesterday, temp at 16°F. One night last week it was snowing flakes so big I could see their shadows as they fell on the ground by the streetlight. rr |

Although this is a regular occurance in parts of the US, it has caused absolute havoc here in the UK Our local weather station recorded gusts of 83miles per hour. |

Subject: RE: BS: Snow in Southern California From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jan 02 - 09:06 AM The newspaper said we got half an inch here outside Auburn, in Northern California - but I think it was more like three inches that we got Monday. We're at an elevation of 2,300 feet and mountain driving in snow can be treacherous, so my stepson was overjoyed to get the day off school. My sweetie and I took a hike along the stream in the woods next to the house, and it was absolutely beautiful. The camellias are starting to bloom, and they look beautiful in the snow. One of the many reasons I'm glad I got married and moved up here. -Joe Offer- |

The record high for the day in well over 100 years of U.S. Weather Bureau records was 55! That's pretty bizarre.. to beat a more than 100 year old record by 13 degrees. I'm glad that some people say where they are. It's always confusing when someone talks about the weather in their area and I have no idea which side of the planet they're living on. My wife and I live in Derby, Ct, about 65 miles Northeast of New York City. Jerry |

Well, around here in the Great Pacific Northwest, our standard wind-gauge is a heavy log chain attached to an iron pole sunk deep into the ground. If the wind whips the log chain around a bit, that's nothin'. If it lashes it around, cracking like a whip and snapping links off, well . . . probably ruffle your hair a bit. But if the log chain stands there motionless in a perfectly horizontal position, then you can expect it might get a little breezy before nightfall. Don Firth |

Hard freezes every night. Deer, Jackrabbit, and fox tracks all over. Don't see a coyote track anywhere, they musta gone on vacation. Probably went to Puerto Vallarta. |
