Subject: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Genie Date: 29 Jan 02 - 04:12 PM I don't generally start political discussion threads, but I'm posting this one mainly to draw attention to thisInterim Song Challenge!having to do with Attorney General Ashcroft's office ordering drapes to cover up the semi-nude statues in the Hall Of Justice, so he won't have to be photographed with a bare [aluminum] breast over his head.
Go ahead and discuss it here, if you like, but I myself would rather see the discussion take the form of song.

BTW, I'm gonna try the clickification on this once more, but I'll give you the html address, too, so you can cut and paste into your browser, if necessary, to see the most recent offending photo and the news article.

Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Genie Date: 29 Jan 02 - 04:23 PM For the third time, the blue clicky that I've posted for the above posted html address doesn't work. It says "page not found." But the cut and paste does work. Genie |
Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Uncle Jaque Date: 29 Jan 02 - 07:11 PM Hey, Genie; I just took a gander at that photo, and find it genuinely inspirational!
Makes me wanna "take a bite outta crime"! Now if we can only get the AP to get a shot of Sen. Barney Frank (D) standing under Michalangello's statue of "David"... Isn't it interesting when we mix Art with politics? |

Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Genie Date: 29 Jan 02 - 11:46 PM Folks, check out the link to the Song Challenge! above. Amos posted a link to the article and photo which worked for me about 20 minutes ago. I do have a feeling that, ironically, Ashcroft's draping the statue will have the effect of that photo getting a lot more coverage and exposure (no pun intended--yeah, right) than it would have had he left well enough alone! Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Uncle Jaque Date: 30 Jan 02 - 12:14 AM I wonder if that picture would ever have been taken, much less published, if it were a Democrat as the subject?
With AP's track record of subtle(?) "editorial composition" in both text and graphic journalisim, I rather think not.
The pic is a hoot, and I would be surprised if the Attorney General didn't get at least a chuckle out of it himself. "Conservatives" in Government get used to this sort of treatment by the Press after a while, and I suspect that he's no stranger to it. If our President ever leaves his fly unzipped for about 30 seconds, guess what pictures are going to appear prominently in all the major newspapers and on national TV for about the next week and a half... ? |

Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: kendall Date: 30 Jan 02 - 09:06 AM UJ, how much coverage of Willys open fly did the media feast on for years? These assholes are just getting started, and the gloves are off now, so, from the resident, I mean president, to the lowest member of his cabinet, they should look out. It reminds me of a cartoon I saw, a man is walking down a road, he sees a sign that says ENTERING SODOM WATCH YOUR ASS. Can you imagine getting excited over an aluminum boob? this guy reminds me of the anal flange head in "King of the Hill." |
Subject: RE: BS: John Ashcroft & Minnie Lou From: Genie Date: 30 Jan 02 - 03:46 PM I posted a bit of an update on the story in the Interim Song Challenge! thread. Ashcroft now denies authorizing the drape or knowing about it, but it was his highest ranking staffer who is taking the credit/blame for doing it all on her own. Hard to imagine, though, some aide or even the White House Chief of Staff covering up the portraits of the presidents without permission from the Chief Executive. At any rate, the drapes CAN be opened, so if Ashcroft doesn't concur with his staffer's move, he COULD leave them open at his next conference. Whaddya wanna bet he doesn't? Genie |
