Subject: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: GUEST Date: 29 Jan 02 - 12:46 PM Haven't seen these in the Mudcat Links section, though they may be there. Hard to tell when the Links index is so confusing. http://www.lib.washington.edu/Music/world.html http://www.nypl.org/research/lpa/mus/mus.resources.html http://polsong.gcal.ac.uk/ http://www.folkways.si.edu/linkspag.htm http://www.folklore.bc.ca/Linksusa.htm http://www.crixa.com/muse/unionsong/musites.html http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/related/index.html http://www.scoiltrad.com/ http://www.music.indiana.edu/music_resources/genres.html http://www.ipl.org/ref/RR/static/hum20.60.00.html http://www.cbmr.org/ |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: MMario Date: 29 Jan 02 - 01:04 PM Thanks guest (s?) - if you were a member you could put those links into the link section with page titles and descriptions of each site. Were you aware that the link section is a collection of links submitted by posters? |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 Jan 02 - 08:21 PM It would help if you all would briefly describe the content of these websites. Lib. Washington: Here Center for Political Song Glasgow Caledonian Univ.: Here CUFresno Trad. Ballad Index is in Links and used by most people here, but: Here Most of us have a number of these bookmarked. We have forgotten what the "call letters" look like. The way you present them mean that we have to check them out one by one. Somebody else can look at the rest if they have the time. Until the name and purpose of the website is indicated--- even just the name as I have done for three--- we don't know whether the site is worth looking at, bookmarking or linking. |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 Jan 02 - 09:09 PM If you do not mean these posts for the general audience, a message through the personal page is better. Otherwise give the website name and brief content description. |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: Mark Clark Date: 30 Jan 02 - 12:13 AM Thanks, GUEST. I've entered each link into my PersonalBrain software and had no trouble adding the descriptions as well. Glad to have the links, - Mark |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: Desert Dancer Date: 30 Jan 02 - 01:21 AM I got directed to the Mudcat links page with a recent post, too, but I find I have to agree with Guest that it's gotten so bulky as to be pretty hard to navigate. Too many categories and maybe haphazardly applied... don't know what the fix would be after the fact, though, without lots of labor on someone's part. Perhaps some good keywords whenever an entry is added, then one can search? (It does mean you need more than just the URL, and more than just the site name to go with the URL, which is useful anyway.) ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Library & Univ Folk Music Links Pages From: GUEST Date: 30 Jan 02 - 10:04 AM You are welcome Mark. Becky, since the links page, like the harvesting of songs here, is done by volunteers, and there doesn't seem to be any indexing system adhered to, it makes the links page and at times the database very difficult to use. For me, the beauty of the lyrics database is the search engine if you have a line of lyric, or some keywords. But beyond that, it is quite cumbersome for use for any sort of methodical research, to my librarian mind at any rate. Probably because I can't seem to grasp what methodology was used to devise it to begin with. |
