Subject: What works, what doesn't onstage? From: Maryrrf Date: 25 Jan 02 - 04:58 PM This is kind of a spin off of the "Performer vs. Showman" thread. I'm interested in people's opinions of what works and what doesn't when playing to an audience. I've got my own opinions but I'd like to hear what others think - what they view as disasters or disappointments and what they view as successfull. I've certainly noticed that many mediocre or "okay" performers are successful because they know how to play to an audience. Is this a learned skill, or do you either have it or not? |

Subject: RE: What works, what doesn't onstage? From: Roughyed Date: 26 Jan 02 - 04:42 AM It's most definitely a learned skill. I work as a trainer and people new to the job go on a week long Presentation Skills Course which basically teaches them how to stand up in front of an audience and communicate with them. It is amazing to see people change during that week from stammering wrecks into people enjoying themselves in front of - and with - an audience. Of course like anything else, some people are better than others and some people hardly need teaching, but everyone gets something out of it.
