Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Ebbie Date: 25 Jan 02 - 01:02 PM I'm happy with the results of my bid. LanFranc's generously proffered 'Weavers Song Book' is on its way to me and my check, including postage, is on its way to Mudcat. The song book will be given to a musician friend of mine who loves the songs of the Weavers. Ebbie |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Steve in Idaho Date: 25 Jan 02 - 01:47 PM I was thrilled with what I bought - and what I sold. All of it contributed to others needs and the Cat - Steve |

Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: DancingMom Date: 25 Jan 02 - 10:32 PM I just had my first crack at it, and it was fun! I got the bluegrass book offered by Sinsull (thank you!) and was hoping to see the results of the Rave On bidding in case I can write one bigger check. (It's nice to finally have some money to play with.) Sharon |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 25 Jan 02 - 11:02 PM The beauty of the auction is.....a free marketplace.
Unfortunately, when less than two hundred attend, the bidding is slow and low.
Try E-Bay with ALL the profits going to Max. (What will a wedding band bring?) |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: katlaughing Date: 25 Jan 02 - 11:21 PM For once I have to say I agree with you, garg, at least for bigger ticket items, i.e. instruments. I think it means more to each of us, though, for our smaller items, i.e. books etc. to go to those we consider to be friends and whom we know will cherish the item as much as we may have. I appreciate the bids on the items I've included lately and in the past. Amergin, I wil get that bracelet shortened this weekend, sorry it has taken a few more days than I expected. I guess that's payback for scooping me outta the book Sandy offered!**BG** I am also thrilled to have sheet music of my mom's cousin, which Sorcha generously offered. Ebbie, the rest of it is on its way to you. Let's kep the momentum going, folks, so that it stays a steady source, eh? Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Amergin Date: 27 Jan 02 - 03:07 AM just thought i would knock this back up there...it appears the furor has died down a bit.... |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 03:59 PM Another testimonial from a happy customer... I got my "real" English tea today. Just one question...will this make me start talking with a British accent? I already know how to stick out my pinky finger as I gently sip. And does it taste differently from fine china? And just exactly what are crumpets? John in Hull gave us a recipe over in the Annexe, but they sound too involved to make in my kitchen. I wonder about cornbread...hmmmmmm.... |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: kendall Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:16 PM Crumpets look like what we call English muffins |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:25 PM ahhhh...I saw a picture on the web with all the little holes in them. But they sound too hard to make. How about animal crackers? Or bagels? |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: MMario Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:27 PM BillD - the check is on its way to Max. |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:28 PM Oh yes... I just remembered McDonald's serves the Egg McMuffin on an English muffin. (They have an ad out now just before the Olympics...buy an Egg McMuffin with Canadian bacon, American cheese, and an English muffin.) |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:35 PM Mary and Kendall, try this link. BTW, I like crumpets as a night time snack and they taste great when hot and dripping with butter. Mary, I'm amazed the tea has arrived - I only posted on Monday! Jon |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:46 PM LOL Jon, that's the same site I saw! I was confused with the baking instructions using a ring, etc. but I think they are available in the grocery here. Most anything dripping with butter is good. I put sugar in my tea...is that a no no? |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Amergin Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:51 PM a touch of honey is better..... |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:57 PM I've done that too Amergin! Even have the little wooden scored stick for dipping honey. A nice advantage to that is you can put some honey on the crumpets too (with lots of butter.) |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:59 PM Mary, I drink my tea with sugar as do many other people. Drink it how you enjoy it (and hopefully you will enjoy it). Jon |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: IvanB Date: 01 Feb 02 - 07:13 PM Actually, looking at the site Jon referenced, I think crumpets are made with a thinner batter than are muffins, thus the need for a ring (to keep them from spreading out like a pancake). I've made English muffins before and they're pretty easy to make. I didn't think mine were any better than the store-bought brands, though, so one experience was plenty for me. Crumpets sound like something I'd like to try also. Does anybody have a recipe for them? |
Subject: RE: Review: Action in the Auction! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Feb 02 - 07:24 PM John in Hull posted this recipe for crumpets over in the Annexe. (Bread and baking thread) |
