Looking for a "SERIOUS" Scots-Irish/Celtic fiddler in the Northern Virginia - Washington, DC area. Must also be interested in and willing to perform "Early" music from the Renaissance through Early American time periods. We will be losing our fiddler shortly.

We are a high energy performance Scots-Irish/Celtic band who perform music from the Renaissance through the Colonial/Early American time periods.

MINIMUM NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS ARE: -- Energy, articulation, emotion, clarity and brilliant technique. -- Good intonation is a must!!! -- Able to play in multiple-flat and multiple-sharp keys. -- Must be serious and available to rehearse & perform. -- We are a working band, and perform "professionally" at pubs, festivals, Renaissance Faires, museums, etc. throughout the mid-Atlantic region, as far south as Southern Virginia and the Carolina's and as far North as New England and New York. -- We perform as much as 3 out of 4 weekends per month. -- Our schedule is especially busy in the spring and the Fall seasons. -- We rehearse in Fredericksburg - Woodbridge Virginia area at least once a week, -- Be willing to wear costumes appropriate to the time period and/or culture we are portraying (i.e. Kilt, Irish Dress, Renaissance, and/or Colonial garb). -- Good people skills and able to deal with others in the group.

THINGS THAT WOULD BE NICE: -- Ability to read music. -- Ability to sing harmony vocals. -- Doubling on other instruments. -- Recording experience.

If you are interested, or think you might be interested and want to know more,

PLEASE DO NOT POST RESPONSE HERE,

E-MAIL: TomLoriMail@Yahoo.Com

Thanks,

Tom

Well, helldamnbloody......I meet all the requirements except being near by.........besides, I am posting HERE, when told not to..........crapola, I can't seem to do anything right.............

Tom, that really is rather snotty---posting here, but asking for no responses here. We are supposed to care enough to copy/paste and reply via e mail?

Sorry, MC friends, I have just about HAD IT with people asking "Reply e mail......" or "You have done this before for me, so please reply e mail".......

I do quite enough searching/work as it is for people who don't seem to be able to deal with search engines. I'll be bloody dammmmmmed if I'll e mail much of anything anymore.

Besides, the "e mail to......" posters very seldom even come back to say Thanks for the effort.. I think I am ready to stop responding to "send answer to (e mail address) altogether.............

sorry, rant over. Tomorrow I'll probably be back to normal.

Someone suggested I post my search for a Fiddler to MudCat because of MudCat has a wider audience of musicians. This is my first posting to MudCat, and I find it very discouraging that my first response is so negative.

I requested people contact me via e-Mail in order to better facilitate more timely responses to inquiries and to allow people privacy in their responses. I didn't think personal information needed to be posted on a "news group" for others to comment on, as I didn't want other people to be hurt by the inconsiderate comments like yours.

By the way, I do answer my e-Mail. What is really "snotty" is posting a negative response to a thread you have no intention of taking seriously, even more, that by your own words, does not apply to you.

Please do not post any more negative responses to this thread.

Tom

Well, Tom, now you've met our Scorchy Sorcha. She was just blowing off steam. And if you stop and look, she addressed it sort of to the universe in general, not at you personally-- I think she's just frustrated not to be near enough to go for this one herself! And from your post she may have thought (like has been the case with others) that you had been a post-and-run fella, and would never be back to see her rant!

But in general, people here do let the threads do the job. It is also a way we all keep in touch with what is happening. If someone strikes up a chat with you here over the details, it will help inform others as you respond and it goes back and forth.

So give Mudcat a chance, huh? It's a community, really not a newsgroup.

Sorry my pal shot fire, though, really.

~Susan

Uh-oh........yup, busted. Sorry, Tom, but you did say "Do not answer here....". Whizzywig is absolutely correct with her answer. I fulfill all the qualifications, and read music.......wish I was close enough to really respond to your ad.

My truly sincere apologies.......I was just letting off some steam, and you inadvertendly got in the way. My fault all over.

Hopefully no permanent damage done...

Guest, TomLoriMail@Yahoo.com.

I think your use of the Mudcat is appropriate. I personally feel that our community is the best place to contact quality people and musicians. I am sorry your first contact was negative. The level of discourse and banter here is high and can be off-putting. Some of us could be more polite to those who don't know our mode.

I hope you find the fiddler you are looking for. I live near you in Maryland, and I have lived and taught school in Fredericksburg, so I'd appreciate it if you'd let us know here when you're playing nearby, I'd like to hear your band. I do know one suitable fiddler in King George, and I'll telephone him. Oh, and requesting answers off line is only common sense, why post here and take up space when it is emails you truly want? I agree.

Sorcha, please don't bite the visitors, they infuse us with new ideas, IMHOP.

Regards, Fortunato.

Sorcha:

Thank you for the apolgy, it is accepted and much appreciated.

I hope you do find what you are looking for with your music.

I do realize how frustrating dealing with the pure rudeness of people not taking the common curteousy to acknowledge mail and phone calls, especially when it concerns something you feel very passionately about.

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom, did you also post about it HERE? There is a small forum of fiddlers there, and links to an old-time music web ring.

I dunno. Cool to place musicians wanted ads on mudcat as far as I'm concerned, but the purpose of a thread is to keep all info together, so why not reply here? Can understand Sorcha's response - don't think it was intended personally. Anyway, would love the gig, but am in UK. Sorry.

Tom--I don't think asking for responses via email was inappropriate; but you might have explained why you wanted it done that way. Just that it is a Mudcat thing to be more approachable when you are new -- yet how can newcomers know that? Damned if ya do etc. :~) Anyway sounds like the communications are going smoother.

Anyway, you could try the rec.music.celtic newsgroup, but I think you'll get more serious responses from Mudcat! Good luck to you; your group sounds very interesting. I might come to visit a friend in DC at some point and would love to check out one of your performances.

Peg
