Subject: Dial-up Connection From: michaelr Date: 18 Jan 02 - 01:36 PM I use a dial-up connection with only one phone line. When AOL was my ISP, any incoming call would knock me off-line. Since I've switched to NetZero this does not happen, however friends tell me when they try to call they get a normal ringing tone, not a busy signal. My question is this: How can I configure my setup so that when I'm online I'm alerted to incoming phone calls and can decide whether I want to take them? Or perhaps there's a way to route calls to my answering machine? Thanks, techies. Michael |

This is a program that functions as an "internet answering machine." If a call comes in when you're on-line, you'll get a ring on your computer and your caller can send you a message that is recorded and then played on your computer. CallWave needs "forward on busy"; my telephone company charges 75 cents a month for this. I have the freeware version of CallWave that limits messages to 30 seconds; more options are available from CallWave's website. |

You could program this into your dial-up phone number..by entering *70,XXX-XXXX (the comma creates a pause for the second dial tone to kick in, and then the ISP's number represented by the X's.) If 1 comma doesn't give enough of a pause add another. |
