Subject: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Townes Date: 13 Jan 02 - 05:58 PM Does any Catter know of a site containing ABC filea for Bluegrass or Old Time music. I have had a great time with the celtic ones but time to change direction for a while. Regards Townes |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Sorcha Date: 13 Jan 02 - 07:00 PM I haven't run across any. ABC was primarily developed for Irish/Celtic. Most of the Old Time/Bluegrass sites I have seen are lyrics, some with MIDI files. If you have Noteworthy Composer (paid version) you can save the MIDI and print it out as sheet music. |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: GUEST,GUEST Date: 13 Jan 02 - 07:19 PM click on this thingy to get about 130 oldtime and bluegrass .abc tunes. If you have Tabledit software, there are about 1400 tabs available Here. I believe they also have the software available at the same location. Hope the clicky thingys work... |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Sorcha Date: 13 Jan 02 - 07:35 PM They work, but looks like the first one only works if you already have an ABC program installed to open them from. Very good, guest! |

Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Townes Date: 13 Jan 02 - 10:41 PM Thanks for your info GUEST,GUEST but I seem to be having trouble my end. Your reference only opens up ABC Mus but does not give me any abc files. I currently run my abc files on ABC Play.I have used ABC Mus for chord structures at times. Perhaps you could give me the address for the files and I will pay a visit. Regards Townes |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: GUEST,GUEST Date: 13 Jan 02 - 10:53 PM you can find 17000 tunes in .abc format Here . Each link goes to a collection of .abc tunes that can be opened with any platform that speaks ABC. I myself use MelodyAssistant, and have found it to be an invaluable tool. |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Geoff the Duck Date: 28 Jun 03 - 03:25 PM GUEST,GUEST. - the clicky you gave in the previous post still works. The site content has expanded since Jan 02. Curent total (Cut& Pasted from the site) - the web-wide abc index(Mon Jun 16 2003) This index contains 21065 titles for 18849 tunes. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Mark Cohen Date: 28 Jun 03 - 04:20 PM There's also a good collection of old-time tunes in MIDI format, catalogued by key. Since I last checked the site, he's added "dots" (musical notation) for the tunes in GIF and PDF format, and a collection of MIDI's for Irish and Scottish tunes as well. Very nice! Many of the tunes appear to come from the Fiddler's Fakebook, so guitarists with imperfect ears (like me!) can use that to check chords. (Yes, I know, lots of chords in that book are imperfect as well...but it's a start.) Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: ABC file re Bluegrass & Old Time From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jun 03 - 12:32 AM The link that GuestGuest posted works quite well - (click to play, right-click to download). I downloaded the files and saved it as bluegrassfiles.abc.txt. Wehn I click on the file, it opens it in Notepad. I can then highlight any tune I want, and paste it into concertina.net. I've used ABCMUS as an ABC player for years, but I haven't installed it yet on my current computer. I'd recommend the program. -Joe Offer- |
