Hail and welcome, Gordo. Step forward and be recognized welcome to the International Brotherhood of Mudcatters. Brother Fielding will teach you the lesser passwords, Brother Catspaw will teach you the official noises, and I will clatter the bed pans at appropriate times. The secret handshake you may discover as you go along. regards, Fortunato

Welcome, Gordo - From which side of the great pond hails thou? (Not as it matters at all really - I'm just a nosey bugger!)

Cheers

I hail from one of the lesser-known Maritime provinces of Canada - New Brunswick - oft times confused with a town in New Jersey. So that would be the "across the western ocean", where one would make land if blown off course for Newfoundland or Nova Scotia.

I have been 'on the road' thru New Brunswick, NJ, and NO ONE ALIVE could mistake it for your home, Gordo, trust me.

Welcome to the Mudcat, Gordo. I was going to ask you if you were Canadian. With a name like that one, somehow I just knew. One of my grandfathers was a maritimer from New Brunswick. A fine place indeed, and never to be confused with New Jersey (not that there's anything wrong with New Jersey, mind you).

I live in West Virginia. Technically, I'm not allowed to make fun of New Jersey, West Virginia being lower down on the pecking order, so to speak.

Carol, wouldn't that more correctly be The Food Chain?

No Don, I think Carol has it right. In New Jersey, the state bird may be the buzzard, but in West Virginia, the state bird is the fly.

Welcome to the 'Cat Gordo.

What used to be called the "pecking order" is now called the "food chain," although I think "pecking order" is a more applicable concept.

Anyway, I thought it was Newfoundland that we were allowed (obliged?) to make fun of. Sonja ( a very regular "guest).

Newfoundlanders are great. I wouldn't make fun of them even if I was allowed to.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with New Jersey! After all, how can you say anything bad about a place whose state tree is the telephone pole, state bird is the mosquito, state flower is the beer can, and state motto is, "Damn, it smells bad here...let's go inside." After all, New Jersey Public Television once had a show called (and in the words of Dave Barry, I am not making this up) "A Lot Happens Between New York and Philadelphia." And we Philadelphians know that what makes our city look so good is that it's right across the river from Camden.

Welcome to the 'Cat, Gordo. All I know about the Maritimes is that they all begin with N. Except Prince Edward Island. But I've heard they sometimes call that one Ned.

Aloha,
Mark
(who used to live in New Jersey, and who probably should get some rest)

Is it true that all you have to do to drive a Newfie insane is to nail one shoe to the floor and then grab a fiddle and play. "I'se the Bye." ?

WyoWoman welcomes you from Kansas. (I know. It doesn't really make sense, but once I left Wyoming, none of the monikers with Kansas really had much of a ring to 'em.) I've never even been close to New Brunswick -- New Jersey or Canada. But I bowled with a Brunswick ball once. That may have been the night I scored my personal best of 72. Who-hoo.1

You'll have a good time here. You DO yodel, don't you?

By the way, when one of the guys shows you the secret handshake, smile politely, then wash your hands immediately. You cannot imagine where those hands have been ...

I should have been here to welcome you Gordo but duty called(and so did the smell of greenbacks).Welcome, Welcome to the wonderful world of weirdness. I have been lurking around here for about four months now and everyday I check in to read the threads. Be sure to have kleenex, they'll make you cry, a squeegee for cleaning your screen, 'cause you'll definitely spit coffee on it every once in a while. You will love it here I guarantee it.:*) VF
