Subject: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: InOBU Date: 08 Jan 02 - 05:47 AM Well, there may be life in the old girl yet... MazMalani Swift (one of the most inovative and talented fiddlers I know) and I spent all of yesterday in the studio after a new deal was hammered out. The resulting track of the still up and coming CD Ni Sasta ach Amadain, Swift's Modest Proposal, includes in the set of Jigs An Phis Fluich, no snickering from the Gaelic speakers please... MazMalani brings real power to the mix and actually practices for rehersals! Imagine that! AND that from a tallent who could get by without it I'm sure!!! Well, to all who worried at the death bed, thanks, and I hope to be able to get out some new CDrs and one day the actual CD its self soon. Cheersm'dears, Larry |

Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: Peg Date: 08 Jan 02 - 10:50 AM Larry; have you considered changing the name and starting again? That might be a way to breathe new life into the project and get distance from the past problems...I would imagine lots of people have trouble pronouncing it anyway, and Irish speakers probably just find it a bit strange... good luck

Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: jeffp Date: 08 Jan 02 - 01:10 PM Not to worry, Bob. Sorcha Dorcha is Larry's band in NYC, and not connected with "our" Sorcha, who lives out west. She is fine, as far as I know. jeffp |
Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jan 02 - 01:15 PM Larry - Sorcha Dorcha won't die as long as you are still breathing. We were all in the Recovery Room not at a death bed. Congratulations on the speedy recovery. SINS |

Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: InOBU Date: 08 Jan 02 - 07:32 PM Hi Peg, the problems don't seem to start with the name, but the location. New York sucks. If it had an air you could sing it! WHAT Gaelic speakers think the name is strange!?!?! Even outside the Pavee community, a dark haired blued eyed girl named Sorcha is often refered to as Sorcha Dorcha in the Gaeltacht. Sorcha Bolger being the first name who comes to mind, and anyone who is in touch with Sorcha Dorcha Bolger from Donegal let me know, the band is a wee bit dedicated to her, and her friends Morah, Shiobhan and Bart... and the idelic summer we all spent with my sweetie Genie in 1978... but I digress... Well, to all who are following us, thanks, and if you like us, you'll LOVE Peg's band... Cheers, Larry |

Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: Sorcha Date: 08 Jan 02 - 07:58 PM Yes, Bob, I'm still here. Tired today, and my server crashed last night, but I am OK way out west in Wyoming. The band Sorcha Dorcha is in New York City. I am waiting until the auction is over to send the penny. No point in 2 mailings if you win your book. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 08 Jan 02 - 08:21 PM I suppose with the way Americans seem to insist on pronouncing names like Wagner and Derby according to "commonsense" orthography, you must get people tryin to make the band rhyme with scorcher and getting annoyed when it doesn't. Especially if they think pride themselves on being Irish. Anyway, good luck with it. There have to be some sensible people in New York. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: Oversoul Date: 08 Jan 02 - 08:31 PM We are tired of the Sorcha Dorcha saga. Glitzy webpages ain't musical enough for this collective. Shit or get off the pot. |
Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: InOBU Date: 08 Jan 02 - 09:58 PM We??? We are tired??? Royalty! Well, being a citizen, not a subject, I will take my advice from people who I have known for awhile, not some fellow whose greatest musical accomplishment is joining mudcat, as far as I can tell from your post, which tells me nothing about your opinon, other than you have a pention for vulgarity. Swift and Otway are going to be at the winter gathering, featured for the Friday Night Concert on Jan 25 in North Carolina. I'll get details to post. Hope Oversoul is there, you'll like the music (unless your tone deaf in which case you'll like all the pritty colors and strange insturments. Larry |
Subject: RE: Sorcha Dorcha signs of life... From: Peg Date: 09 Jan 02 - 11:23 AM Larry wrote: "Hi Peg, the problems don't seem to start with the name, but the location." --I was only suggesting that since you have had so many problems why not a name change to breathe soem fresh air into the process. I don't think it is a "bad" name at all, just slightly confusing perhaps for those who don;t know how it should be pronounced... "New York sucks. If it had an air you could sing it!" --then why stay there? And it is a huge city! Who is to say that you can't create soemthing this city would go for? If you continue to have a defeatist attitude ("I'll never get a band ging in this town!") then you will not be able to make it work. Positive thinking is everything. "WHAT Gaelic speakers think the name is strange!?!?!" --I think I said IRISH SPEAKERS. Gaelic usually refers to Scottish Gaelic, and Irish, well, means Irish (known to some as "Gaelic" but it is not actually correct to say this, according to people who teach these languages). And I speak Irish (and Gaelic) and I find the name a bit strange because of the rhyme, I guess. "Even outside the Pavee community, a dark haired blued eyed girl named Sorcha is often refered to as Sorcha Dorcha in the Gaeltacht." --I did not know this. So it does make some sense, I guess, I just don't like band names that are rhymes or puns (personal preference). You don't have to defend the name to me as a good or bad one and I think you misunderstand my earlier statement. My suggestion for changing it had more to do with changing an attitude or feeling about the band, which has seemed beset with problems for some time now. "Sorcha Bolger being the first name who comes to mind, and anyone who is in touch with Sorcha Dorcha Bolger from Donegal let me know, the band is a wee bit dedicated to her, and her friends Morah, Shiobhan and Bart... and the idelic summer we all spent with my sweetie Genie in 1978... but I digress... Well, to all who are following us, thanks, and if you like us, you'll LOVE Peg's band..." --you have not heard my band, Larry! (Not the most recent one at any rate) And we are an a cappella band, not at all similar to what you do...but thanks for the compliment anyway.
