Subject: Seven Hills to Home by Johnny Lane +? From: GUEST,Bob Froese Date: 07 Jan 02 - 01:31 AM I'm looking for the complete lyrics to the old country song, SEVEN HILLS TO HOME. It's not under "S" in the alpha list in Mudcat. I think it may have been recorded by Johnny Lane and the Spinners. (I found an old 78 in a cyberstore with a lyric by that title, but I don't need the platter, just the lyric since I know the tune and I'm not a '78 collector.) It starts: "When I was young I used to ride an old grey mare to school Seven hills I had to ride to learn the golden rule..." Chorus went something like: "Seven hills to home (2X) The days have passed away; I can no longer stay I'm always looking forward to those seven hills to home." You can post the lyric here perhaps or Fax (416) 954-7240. Thanks. Bob |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Hills to Home by Johnny Lane + From: Jim Dixon Date: 08 Jan 02 - 01:09 PM Oddly enough, I found a request for "7 Hills to Home" on a discussion forum related to the Korean War. No reply there, though. Otherwise, I have failed to find any reference to the song or to Johnny Lane and the Spinners. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Hills to Home by Johnny Lane + From: GUEST,jim hightower Date: 22 Oct 02 - 09:40 PM I've tried to find the lyrics to this song for years. I'll give some of it as I remember: When I was young, I used to ride an old black horse to school. Over seven hills I had to ride to learn that Golden Rule. When school was out in the evening time, just about half-past four, I'd saddle up that old black horse and ride those hills once more. CHORUS: Seven hills to home, Seven hills to home....

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Hills to Home (from Johnny Lane) From: GUEST,Guest Date: 08 Aug 11 - 12:15 AM Life is full of sadness no matter what we do, Dreams that seem to bright today just don't seem to come true As we travel the hills of life and count them as we go For the next one will be better and we'll get there I know. Seven hills to home, seven hills to home, Oh the way be filled with sadness as o'er those hills I roam I'm always looking forward to those seven hills to home. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Hills to Home (from Johnny Lane) From: GUEST Date: 28 Jan 14 - 09:44 PM Tom "When I was young I used to ride An old black horse to school. Seven hills I had to cross To learn the golden rule. When school let out in the evening time, Around about half past four, I'd saddle up my old black horse and ride the hills once more, Seven hills to home, Seven hills to home, Though the way was filled with hardships As over those hills I'd roam, I'd sing and pass the time away, Until I reached my home, Seven hills to home, Seven hills to home, Though the years have passed away, And bigger worlds we've roamed, I'm always looking forward to, Those seven hills to home. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Hills to Home (from Johnny Lane) From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 29 Jan 14 - 12:20 PM Hello, Guest. Thanks for the link to Hugh Kelly's version. Though he is getting on and sometimes loses his breath support, I enjoyed hearing his singing. He sure has a way with the half-notes in the middle of the song. He glides down them so gently, you don't even notice that he's changed the key. I'm making a MIDI of the tune and will send it to Joe. I think that 'Seven Hills to Home' would make a great sing-along song. Click to play (joeweb) |
