Subject: LYR REQ: ALBERT FINNEY/A CHRISTMAS CAROL From: r.b. Date: 14 Dec 99 - 08:23 AM I'm not sure if this is an appropriate lyrics request for the mudcat, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who might know where to find the lyrics to the Musical version of A Christmas Carol, with the actor Albert Finney as Scrooge. Particulary the songs, "Thank You Very Much" and "I Like Life". It's my favorite version of the story by Dickens........and I just adore the musical numbers........couldn't catch all of the words when watching the movie.........wondering if anyone can help. Thanks! MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! HAPPY NEW YEAR/MILLENIUM!

Subject: Lyr Add: I LIKE LIFE (from "Scrooge") From: Jim Dixon Date: 26 Oct 07 - 11:19 PM Copied from http://www.lyricsondemand.com/soundtracks/s/scroogelyrics/ilikelifelyrics.html : I LIKE LIFE Leslie Bricusse Ghost of Christmas Present: Ebenezer Scrooge, The sins of man are huge; A never-ending symphony Of villainy and infamy, Duplicity, deceit, and subterfuge, And no one's worse than Ebenezer Scrooge. Though man's a handy candidate for Hell, I must admit life sometimes has its brighter side as well. I like life. Life likes me. Life and I fairly fully agree. Life is fine. Life is good, 'Specially mine, which is just as it should be. I like pouring the wine, and why not? Life's a pleasure; that I deny not. I like life, here and now. Life and I made a mutual vow: Till I die, life and I, We'll both try to be better somehow; And if life were a woman, she would be my wife. Scrooge: Why? Ghost of Christmas Present: Why? Because I like life! Scrooge: That's all very well for you, But I hate life. Ghost of Christmas Present: Nonsense, man! Why? Scrooge: Because life hates me, that's why! Ghost of Christmas Present: Oh, Scrooge, you're an even bigger fool than I took you for! You've had over sixty years on this planet, And during your long, miserable, miserly, selfish existence, You haven't even learned how to live. Now, listen to me: I like life. Well, go on. Scrooge: I like life. Ghost of Christmas Present: That's better! Life likes me. Scrooge: Life likes me. Ghost of Christmas Present: Good, good! I make life a perpetual spree. Scrooge: A perpetual spree! Ghost of Christmas Present: Eating food, Scrooge: Drinking wine, Ghost of Christmas Present: Thinking who'd like the privilege to dine me. Scrooge: I like drinking the drink I'm drinking. Ghost of Christmas Present: That's better, Scrooge! And I like thinking the thoughts I'm thinking. I like songs. I like dance. I hear music and I'm in a trance. Scrooge: Tra-la-la! Ghost of Christmas Present: Oompah-pah! Ghost of Christmas Present and Scrooge: Chances are we shall get up and prance. Ghost of Christmas Present: Where there's music and laughter, Happiness is rife. Scrooge: Why? Ghost of Christmas Present: Why? Because I like life! Ghost of Christmas Present and Scrooge: Where there's music and laughter, Happiness is rife. Why? Because I like life! Ghost of Christmas Present: Come on, Scrooge, we're going visiting. You're in for a few surprises. Drinking life, That's the thing Makes a man want to suddenly sing. Sing and dance, And perchance, Seeing life from a different stance: When you learn how to live it, Life is free of strife. That is why I like life! That's the secret of living. Scrooge: Any man can fly! Ghost of Christmas Present: Why? Because I like life! |

Subject: ADD: Thank You Very Much (from Scrooge) From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Oct 07 - 04:14 AM Tom Jenkins Ladies and gentlemen On behalf of all the people who have assembled here I would merely like to mention if I may That our unanimous attitude Is one of lasting gratitude For what our friend has done for us today And therefore I would simply like to say Thank you very much! Thank you very much! That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me I may sound Double-Dutch But my delight is such I feel as if a losing war's been won for me And if I had a flag I'd hang my flag out To add a sort of final victory touch But since I left my flag at home I'll simply have to say Thank you very, very, very much! Company Thank you very, very, very much! Tom Jenkins Thank you very much! Thank you very much! That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me It sounds a bit bizarre But things the way they are I feel as if another life's begun for me Company And if I had a cannon I would fire it To add a sort of celebration touch But since I left my cannon at home I'll simply have to say Scrooge Thank you very, very, very much! Company Thank you very, very, very much! Thank you very much! Thank you very much! That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me It isn't everyday Good fortune comes my way I never thought the future would be fun for me And if I had a bugle I would blow it To add a sort of 'ow's-your-father touch But since I left my bugle at home I'll simply have to say Thank you very, very, very much Scrooge No, my friends, it is I who should be thankful to you! Company For he's a jolly good fellow For he's a jolly good fellow Scrooge For I'm a jolly good fellow Company And so say all of us Thank you very, very much (Tom Jenkins: Thank you very much!) Thank you very, very much (Tom Jenkins: That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me) Thank you very, very much (Tom Jenkins: The future looks all right) Thank you very much (Tom Jenkins: In fact it looks so bright) Thank you very much (Tom Jenkins: I feel as if they're polishing the sun for me) Thank you very much Thank you very much Thank you very, very, very, very much And if I had a drum I'd have to bang it! To add a sort of rumty-tumty touch But since I left my drum at home I'll simply have to say Thank you very, very, very much! Thank you very, very, very much! source: http://www.lyricsondemand.com/soundtracks/s/scroogelyrics/thankyouverymuchlyrics.html (don't go there - nasty popups) |

Subject: Lyr Add: I HATE PEOPLE (from "Scrooge") From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Nov 08 - 03:00 PM From http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/xmas/ihatepeople.shtml I HATE PEOPLE Leslie Bricusse Sung by Albert Finney in the film "Scrooge", 1970. Scavengers and sycophants and flatterers and fools, Pharisees and parasites and hypocrites and ghouls, Calculating swindlers, prevaricating frauds, Perpetrating evil as they roam the earth in hordes, Feeding on their fellow men, reaping rich rewards, Contaminating everything they see, Corrupting honest men – like me. Humbug! Poppycock! Balderdash! Bah! I hate people. I hate people. People are despicable creatures, Loathsome inexplicable creatures, Good-for-nothing kickable creatures. I hate people. I abhor them. When I see the indolent classes, Sitting on their indolent asses, Gulping ale from indolent glasses, I hate people. I detest them. I deplore them. Fools who have no money, spend it, Get in debt then try to end it, Beg me on their knees befriend them, Knowing I have cash to lend them, Soft-hearted me, Hard-working me, Clean-living, thrifty, and kind as can be. Situations like this are of interest to me. * * * I hate people. I loathe people. I despise and abominate people. Life is full of cretinous wretches Earning what their sweatiness fetches Empty minds whose pettiness stretches Further than I can see. Little wonder I hate people And I don't care if they hate me.
