Subject: LyrAdd: Pierre Trudeau (needs help) From: Susanne (skw) Date: 08 Oct 99 - 08:46 PM This song was mentioned in the 'political campaigns' thread, and I wonder if anyone can help me with the French bits. Pierre Trudeau is very astute
Pierre Trudeau, un homme savant
Pierre Trudeau he comes from Quebec
Pierre Trudeau, il parle pian
Pierre Trudeau has positive views
Pierre Trudeau (?) un air riche
Pierre Trudeau he doesn't conform
Pierre Trudeau, c'est l'homme pour moi
(René Lavesque - then leader of the Quebecois separatist movement) |

Subject: RE: LyrAdd: Pierre Trudeau (needs help) From: Rick Fielding Date: 08 Oct 99 - 10:28 PM God Susan I wish I could help you. I can get a bit of the drift of most of it but surely a Cat with a little "savoir faire" can help more than I can. (Like Joe Offer perhaps) I'll keep it from disappearing though, til you get your answer. Other Mudcatters that I bet can help: Peter T. Katlaughing, Tony Burns, Scarpi, Alice? Rick (finking out) |

Subject: RE: LyrAdd: Pierre Trudeau (needs help) From: Susanne (skw) Date: 09 Oct 99 - 09:44 PM Well, thanks for trying, Rick! And pardon my French! I've no doubt it must look rather strange to anyone who actually speaks the language. (Although as far as I know Canadian French shows marked differences from standard French. Maybe that's part of the problem.) - Susanne |

Subject: RE: LyrAdd: Pierre Trudeau (needs help) From: katlaughing Date: 10 Oct 99 - 02:10 AM Sure, Rick, you're the one who was raised in Mown-trey-ahl! Susanne, I just thought this was a lyric add, so didn't know you were looking for info, 'til now. When Rog is awake, like, uh, tomorrow, I will ask him to take a look. His dad was from Ilse Verte in the St. Laurent River and his mom was first generation American of French Canadian descent, plus Rog went to parochial school where they spoke French in the a.m. and English in the p.m. Hopefully he will remember enough to help out. Bob Landry should be able to help, too. He once gave me a wonderful "French" lesson via messages. I had to guess at a translation of a message about his very musical family. Had to use a dictionary, but I didn't do too badly. Later, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: LyrAdd: Pierre Trudeau (needs help) From: Bob Landry Date: 13 Oct 99 - 04:09 PM Echos of Trudeaumania ... shades of 1968 ... Some of the words do look a bit strange, but not because they may be a variant of the standard language ... more a question of phonetics. OK, Suzanne (skw), you asked for it: Bob ---------
Verse 2:
Il va saumont il ait de l'eau (?)
