Subject: Looking for lyrics
From: The Raggedy Man

There was an old song once done in the late sixties or early seventies, that has the following lines...

"Swamp Water Haddie live back in the swamp where the strange green reptile crawl, where the snakes hang thick from the cypress trees, like sausage on a smoke house wall. Where the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes and all of them are watching you... So stay of the track of haddie's shack, in the back of the black bayou."

I've searched High and low but to no avail. Can someone tell me the artist and the song name?

Lyrics are posted here: SWAMP WITCH (Jim Stafford)--JoeClone, 20-Nov-07.

I am looking for the lyrics to a folksong-like melody about the witch "Black-Water Haddie". Without a performer's name I don't know how to find it.

Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!

Whew! Now that I have your attention, I'd like to welcome newcomers to the Mudcat Cafe, and ask people not to post lyrics requests in threads that have generic, non-specific titles like this one has. We have hundreds of different threads with this very same title, and it really gets confusing to us. If I go to all the effort to find a song for you, how will I know where to post it, and how will you know where to look for it? If you are looking for a song, please search the lyrics database and the forum first, using our handy blue search box. If that doesn't work, start a NEW THREAD with a SPECIFIC TITLE.
However, I think there may be something we're doing that's confusing to newcomers, something that makes them post song requests in generic threads like this one. Can any newcomers give us an explanation? Somebody below suggested that the "post" link after every message is misleading - maybe that's the case. Anyhow, we welcome any suggestions on how to make the Mudcat Cafe less confusing and more welcoming to newcomers.

The song is called "Swamp Witch" and is by Jim Stafford. Sorry, I don't have the lyrics, and they aren't in the database, but you can listen to the song (actually spoken, not sung - is this "swamp rap"?) and buy the CD here.

Carl, like Dick Said just above your statement, it is always best to start a new thread which tells us something about the song. Some people don't even look at this kind of thread anymore. (If I had not seen Dick's name on the New Messages Since Your Last Visit page, I would not have ~~ I nearly always look at what he has to say) I am almost positive that we have discussed this song before, but could find no reference to it. I'll start a new thread for you.

trying to find the lyrics to LONDERRY AIR; I think it started off "Would God I were a tender apple blossom that floats and falls upon the twisted bough........" heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing it many years ago and really liked the lyrics.

Thanks

1) Please see if your songs are in the database and try to find if there is previous thread on the subject.
2) Most important: Please start another thread for your searches - a separate thread for each song sought, with a title giving a clear idea what song you want.
There is information on the main page (via help) and on the page which opens when you click on the main forum to indicate you wish to start a thread.

Ewan, with a name like yours, I would think you would be "ordained" to have the gift of patience. (grin)
But I sure hope people learn that threads with specific titles at best for looking for songs.

My guess is there are two reasons for posting the request in the subject line with the name of the song you want.

1 - It gets your request to more people. - Not everyone checks out all the messages that have as a topic :Lyrics Search. If the name is there, then it can be seen by someone who might not have been interested otherwise.

2 - If later someone else wants to find the same lyrics, they can search the Forum for the name, and it would be found. The search into the body of the messages is disabled. I suspect that is because with all the messages that it has to contend with, it takes too much time. Even IF all the messages were "on-topic".

I suspect those people who have been posting lyric requests in here have come in, and just clicked on "Post to this Thread", in lieu of reading any of the other messages.

I would suggest that the "button" for that purpose be either removed entirely, or put just AFTER the last message.

That make any sense?

I see exactly what George is talking about. I just never noticed it before. After every message, there is a row of links, the first of which is Post! It is entirely possible that people are unwittingly posting to that thread through one of those links. It's a thought anyway. I always read to the bottom of every page, and never really have paid much attention to those links, since I never use them.

Ed or Jane Barker. Here are two locations you want for the song Would God That I Were the Tender Apple Blossom

click
click

The song was written by Katherine Tynan Hinkson, according to one of the sites about Danny Boy. There are a couple of other songs to tune Londonderry Air, besides Danny Boy. I like the one called My Gentle Harp, but I think the parody London Derriere is pretty cute. Especially since I lived through those days, the 60s!

Tender Apple Blossom #2

The only reason I know this answer is that I was looking at various sites about Danny Boy and the tune just a couple of days ago.

It's best if we DON'T give people the answers to their queries in this thread, because we'll have problems locating the songs later on. We can provide links to existing threads, ask them to start a new thread, or start one ourselves and add the link here.

I am looking for the lyrics to a song I think is called 'A Tenderness Place'. The chorus goes something like this:

"Say do you know where I can find Peace of mind for a time A kind of a tenderness place A space just naturally made for me Just big enough Oh my love I've got to find me a soft nest I can let my heart rest . . . in"

It was done by Jane/June Taylor/Tailor and Friends and sung without music, voices only.

Also, got the lyrics to 'Whose Garden Was This' and the end said see 'Monongahela Sal, some 20 years earlier RG' but when I clicked on 'Monongahela Sal', it took me to the 'Whose Garden Was This' lyrics.

So, who was/is Monongahela Sal?

AND, couldn't get the 'Ask the Bartender' link.

Thank you.
