Subject: If the key of E is the peoples key From: Jack (who is called Jack) Date: 24 Aug 99 - 11:41 AM I buried this request in another thread, but if anyone knows where I can find the lyrics to this song I'd appreciate it. Its kind of an erzatz calypso number with a chorus that goes:
Then what is the Key of the Bourgoisie? I ask this question most sincerely In what key do they play? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the key of E is the peoples key From: Terry Date: 25 Aug 99 - 01:27 AM Don't have all the lyrics, but it's on an album from around 1984 called "Central Park Sheiks". It's a great album with the likes of fiddle player Matt Glaser. If you can find it, you can get the lyrics...and, have a great album to boot. |

Subject: ADD: What Key Does The Lord Sing In? From: Bat Goddess Date: 25 Aug 99 - 07:39 AM Any relation to: WHAT KEY DOES THE LORD SING IN? What key does the Good Lord sing in? Is it A? Is it B? Is it C? Does he ever lend a hand, sittin' in with the the angel band? What key is the Good Lord's key? Is it A-men, Hallelujah? Be-lieve, and he will save you? See you through your hour of sin? He will De-liver you from E-vil oppressors! What key does the Lord sing in? I got that from "Pete the Spy" who got it from the second LP by Wilderness Road (entitled "For Prevention of Disease Only") Unfortunately, Pete only sent me the words and, as I only heard it sung once, I haven't a clue as to the tune. (If anyone has a recording, please *please* contact me!) Linn the Bat Goddess |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the key of E is the peoples key From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Aug 99 - 11:49 AM If the people's key is "E", that must be proof that God is a guitarist and rarely touches the piano. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the key of E is the peoples key From: melodeonboy Date: 22 Feb 09 - 07:16 PM "What key does the Lord sing in?" Well, if my suspicions (i.e. that He plays a D/G melodeon) are correct, then he probably sings in D or G! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the key of E is the peoples key From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Feb 09 - 11:41 AM The song is called THE PEOPLE'S KEY. It was written by Bob Hipkens and recorded by the Central Park Sheiks on their album "Honeysuckle Rose", Flying Fish FF 026, LP (1976), trk# 8. The album was reissued as a CD in 2006 by Beatball Records, which is a South Korean label. Band lineup: John Caruso: Bass Matt Glaser: Violin Bob Hipkens: Dobro, Trumpet, Vocals Bert Lee: Guitar, Vocals Richard Lieberson: Guitar, Vocals with Gary Burke on Drums There is also a band called The People's Key, who took their name from the song. Members are Robin and Hank Selby and Margaret Redford. The style is considered "western swing revival." I couldn't find any sound samples or lyrics. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If the key of E is the peoples key From: An Buachaill Caol Dubh Date: 24 Feb 09 - 02:38 PM For what it's worth, James Scott Skinner ("The Strathspey King"), held that "A. is the fiddle-key". Is "E" the "median sub-dominant" of "A"? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The People's Key (Bob Hipkens) From: GUEST Date: 13 Jul 09 - 11:51 AM This is what I recall of it: All kinds of grief beset the man who tries to find in life a plan he searches the world to find some sense, but his logic proves a mere pretense I know this sadly from first hand I learned this fact when I joined this band I'm asking you for your position how do you stand on composition If the key of e is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgoisie I ask this question most sinserely in what key do they play This song was written because Bert Lee woould introduce his songs as being in "the people's key" of whatever... much to the amusement of Hipkens This post is submitted by Bert Lee |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The People's Key (Bob Hipkens) From: GUEST,Willy Date: 30 Jun 10 - 09:07 PM I hadn't thought of the song in decades and started humming it today. I can't remember the second half of the last verse. If it comes to me, I'll repost. Maybe it will jog someone elses memory. People's Key All kinds of grief beset the man who tries to find in life a plan he searches the world to find some sense, but his logic proves but mere pretense I know this sadly from first hand My fate was sealed when I joined this band They search the world in a futile quest To answer this question they're so hard pressed If the key of e is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgoisie I ask this question most sincerely in what key do they play No more even tempered folk alive Do they raise the fourth, do they flat the five? Their muses move in mystery and leave not the slightest clue for me Who ask "how many sharps and how many flats" Within his belt great wealth he bats Why do I restate my rhetorical position Where do they stand on composition I'm asking you for your position how do you stand on composition So have some pity and forget your scorn For here's a man who's soul is torn To be cursed with a restless turn(?) of mind that seeks more answers he can ever find ????????? |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE PEOPLE'S KEY (Bob Hipkens) From: GUEST,JB Date: 30 Jan 11 - 04:53 PM Thanks to the tip from Terry, I just bought a copy of the CD, Honeysuckle Rose by the Central Park Shieks, through Amazon MarketPlace. I've long wanted a copy of "The People's Key." I've added to/edited Willy's lyrics post: The People's Key All kinds of griefs beset the man who tries to find in life a plan; he searches the world to see some sense, but his logic proves but mere pretense. I know this sadly from first hand; my fate was sealed when I joined this band. They search the world in a futile quest to answer this question they're so hard pressed. If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie? I ask this question most sincerely, "In what key do they play?" If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie? I ask this question most sincerely, "In what key do they play?" No more even tempered folk alive; Do they raise the fourth, do they flat the five? Their muses move in mystery and leave not the slightest clue for me. Who asks "How many sharps and how many flats?" Within his belfry dwells the bat Why do I restate my rhetorical position, "Where do they stand on composition?" If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie? I ask this question most sincerely, "In what key do they play?" If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie, boys? He asks this question most sincerely. Yes, in what key do they play? So have some pity and forget your scorn For here's a man who's soul is torn To be cursed with a restless turn of mind that seeks more answers he can never find - Never find. It was once my foolish hope morass To understand the middle class 'til I abandon all of reason and all of rhyme And seek a cure - A cure? - in a warmer clime. If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie? I ask this question most sincerely, "In what key do they play?" If the key of E is the peoples key then what is the key of the bourgeoisie, gentlemen? He asks this question most sincerely. Yes, in what key do they play? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The People's Key (Bob Hipkens) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Sep 15 - 07:07 PM The Peoples Key is G. i don't know how many times it said. And never for any other key. Of course that's this side of the Atlantic. Evidently Americans differ on this. Just another of those subtle differences that only the Mudcat reveals. |
