From: j0_77 Date: 23 Aug 99 - 10:41 PM Starting out a song I imagine I am a freight train with a big load - as I go along I put curves and grades in the route - so the train has to slow down here and there - but in the end have to have a flat to get some speed up. Also try getting a metronome and use that for a while - mostly to memorise one tempo - cheats are blinking lights, any kind - machines, watch a wheel or something repetitive as you play - there is always something that will do the trick untill a person gets the feeling fot 'timing' |

From: Bill D Date: 23 Aug 99 - 11:09 PM one way to practice is to learn a couple of 'pumping shanties' like THE EBENEEZER.....it MUST be sung slowly & rhythmically, or pumpers will wear out VERY quickly..( I don't like the tune in the database much...but it will do if you take it slowly)...the thing is, it is VERY easy to speed up a pumping shanty...Ebeneezer could go at bluegrass tempo if you let it..(or Bully in the Alley...another pumping or short haul shanty) |
