Subject: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Dave Swan Date: 22 Aug 99 - 12:55 PM Late next month I'll travel to Ohio to take delivery of a new vehicle for my department. My boss, usually a highly reasonable man, is concerned that if I don't come right straight home to California I'll be kidnapped or the truck will be vandalized or I'll wear out the tires or dog knows what. This is where you come in. I'd love to send the boss postcards from the road, going in the opposite direction. If you would like to contribute to the charade please do this: Find the tackiest tourist postcard you can lay your hands on, send it to me in an envelope, I'll stamp and inscribe it, put it in an envelope and send it back to you with a little something for your trouble and a mailing date. Can't wait to needle the boss via postcard. If you care to play, please e-mail me at dswan@piedmont.com or cygnus@sirius.com. Thanks. Cheers, E.S. |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Aug 99 - 12:22 AM Actually you could Dan's brother.......... El Swanno.....you're ending tomorrow at about 7, a long shift and your great mind is thinking too small. Why just the opposite direction???? Why not from everywhere? You know at least alison and Helen will play from Oz.......We got a slew of fun loving cats in great Britain.......There,s the big crew in Toronto and we have other Canadians,eh? Even the west coast could be funny. And what about skarpi in Iceland? His computers down right now I think, but a message may get through in time. And written with the right message, they could even arrive after you get back!!! Spaw---Who's been talkin' to PJ on the phone. |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 23 Aug 99 - 01:51 AM Hell, Dave, I think some of these guys might be smart enough to figure it out without the intervention of the Rev. Fr. Joebro. I could post one from El Cerrito--you could say you were almost home when you got a flat, discovered there was no spare so had the vee-hickle towed to the railroad station and shipped back to Ohio to get the flat fixed and pick up a spare (er somethin'). --seed |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Aug 99 - 04:17 PM Got any of the syphllitic penes (according to Bert, that's the correct plural) from the Med History museum at Walter Reid??? Karen's a lab tech and loved the place....I damn near threw up, but you get used to a lot of strange stuff living with a lab tech....Like you're about to cut into your stuffed pepper and your wife says, "Hey guess what? We had a 4 pound uterus in today." When this happens, you know a bit of the romance is gone, but you ARE DEFINITELY MARRIED!!! Oh well, still love her more than ever and she's still the best thing that ever happened to me. Spaw |

My departure date remains uncertain, so I'll post when the time comes. I'm hoping for a staggered mailing approximating the fictional trip home. M'catters have been great about this. Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Helen Date: 08 Sep 99 - 04:24 AM Dave, You still want me to send it 12 days before the due date, though, don't you. It'd be too complicated mucking around with Oz stamps wouldn't it? I'll send one over now if you think the timing will work, but whichever way you think is best. Just let me know when the card has to arrive and I'll calculate it to work - hopefully. So, also tell me when it would be *too soon* to arrive. Helen |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: KathWestra Date: 08 Sep 99 - 01:41 PM Hey Dave -- Hope four cards have made their way to your mailbox. You'll have to choose among the D.C. ones -- I kinda liked the advertisement for the 1600 Pennsylvania Bed & Breakfast (call 1-800-LincolnBedroom), but the Titanic Memorial seemed to have possibilities too. So they and two others are on their way. Received the packet of "California Gold" and wish this was May instead of September (literally and figuratively, now that I think about it!). Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Helen Date: 18 Oct 99 - 02:29 AM Did you hear about the (well, she wasn't blonde, really!) person who rang the fire station in hysterics because her house was on fire. The fireman who answered the phone said "Okay, calm down, and tell us how to get there." She replied, "Der-r-r-r, big red truck?" Maybe it loses impact in written translation. Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Banjer Date: 18 Oct 99 - 06:46 AM November 3 to 5. Roger. In order to maintain complete secrecy of this mission it is suggested that all operatives print out a hard copy of this mission, commit it to memory and then eat the hard copy. Isn't that how all the classic spy movies go? |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: MudGuard Date: 18 Oct 99 - 06:51 AM No, nowadays you just eat the computer after committing the mission to memory! |

That's a Rog, Skipper, we are locked and loaded and ready to launch on your mark. And buddy, if you feel like a bit of a road trip while you are in the area, why don't you come about 4 hours north, 3 hours from Toledo and visit Pete Brown's Office, a bar on Plainfield Ave in Grand Rapids on November 6. I understand that a very good Irish band is playing..........First jar is on me.........between sets. Mick |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: MudGuard Date: 18 Oct 99 - 08:59 AM Kat, did I say anything about the message NOT destroying itself (of course only after you have eaten the computer)? This way it serves also the purpose of the formerly used cyanide capsule... |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Dave Swan Date: 18 Oct 99 - 10:04 AM Thanks everybody. I'll keep this refreshed for a couple of days. I came from a frugal Scots family. We memorized the messages and destroyed ourselves. Mick, I would LOVE to make your gig. Nov 6 is late for me to be that far east unless something dreadful, but repairable happens to the rig. I'll call 'spaw for a consultation. Cheers, D. |

Subject: RE: Accomplices sought, eastern U.S. (BS) From: Dave Swan Date: 04 Nov 99 - 03:30 PM Thanks again to everyone who continures to be part of this. Although I'm home earlier than expected (the result of a rig well executed by the manufacturer, my co-pilot's hurry to get home, and my illness) the postcards continue their work. The needles are now in, and every successive missive tweaks them a little bit more. I dropped off my co-pilot and drove to the station alone. As it happened both my boss, the Fire Chief, and his boss, the City Manager, were on the sidewalk as I arrived. The Fire Chief walked to the driver's side window and said "Glad you're home, by way of Rhode Island." I could tell he was a little twisted, but still didn't know what he knew. The City Manager, who was in on the joke before I left made a "wind him up" gesture behind the Chief's back. I looked innocent and said "Oh?". The Chief then explained that he'd tried to rationalize a trip to Rhode Island to work out the kinks in the rig and that maybe the card from Pennsylvania was part of the loop, but when a card from Connecticut follwed that,he'd reported to his boss that I'd gone off the deep end and maybe he'd have to fire me when I got back. Then another couple of cards arrived and he realized he'd been had. Each successive card reminds him that he's a fish on the line. Heh,heh, heh. Mess not with the mighty forces of the Mudcat, for you may be joked with. Thanks again my friends. I am in your debt. When I can drag my sorry self out of bed again, I'll tell the story of why Cleigh had to rescue 'spaw and E.S. Cheers, E.S. |
