Subject: RE: hear my song From: katlaughing Date: 08 Aug 99 - 07:42 PM I have the cassette tape of the music from the movie by the same title. If that is what you're looking for, I could transcribe it in a couple of days, if nobody else gets on here with it before that. let me know if that's the right one, okay? katlaughing |

Subject: Lyr Add: HEAR MY SONG VIOLETTA (from Josef Locke) From: katlaughing Date: 09 Aug 99 - 06:51 PM Wullie, Hard cash, well no....just undying gratitude for the rest of my life!**Big Grin**
Hear my song, Vay, Vayohletta (this is phonetic to show how he phrases it, it's 'sposed to be a long "a")
Hear my song, Violetta
Hear my song in my gondola, The phrasing of some of the words is really drawn out, some even distinctly said as two words, such as "lo vers" in the 3rd from the bottom line. Do you have the tune? I might be able to figure out how to record it on my 'pewter, from the tape and send it to you in email. Let me know if that would help & I'll try it. Good luck, I think I got them all correct. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: hear my song From: katlaughing Date: 09 Aug 99 - 06:53 PM Forgot to say the music was composed and conducted by John Altman. Copyright on the tape is Giant Records. |

Subject: RE: hear my song From: DougR Date: 09 Aug 99 - 07:04 PM Kat: I wonder if the soundtrack to that movie is available? I'm going to check it out the next time I go to Border's (which I do frequently). I touted this movie to my youngest daughter and she watched it and thought I was crazy. Where did I go wrong? DougR |

Subject: RE: hear my song From: katlaughing Date: 09 Aug 99 - 07:24 PM DougR...YES! That is what I just transcribed the song from! I loved the movie so much I went out and bought the cassette the next day! My daughter almost wore the tape out and I am lucky she left it when she moved out! I have had a less than enthusiastic review from others I've recommended it to, though. I think one has to have an appreciation of "torch" songs, the old time "theatre", as well as really great Irish tenors, along with a quirky sense of humour; the kind that can appreciate the subtleties along with the outright. Some people I know won't watch any movie which has singing in it! I am sure you didn't "go wrong" anywhere. A few years from now, she'll probably watch it, again, because of some friend's recommendation and call you to say she can't believe she didn't like the first time round! BTW: Wullie & DougR: if you go here you will find the soundtrack and can even listen to a bit of the title song, instrumental only, if you have realaudio. Have fun, kat |

Subject: RE: hear my song From: Cathy Date: 09 Aug 99 - 10:28 PM I really loved the movie, but then tenors have always gotten to me. I was the only kid on my block in love with Dick Powel and now I'm a Vince Gill fan. I wish people would think of this movie when Ned Beatty is mentioned. |
|
Subject: RE: hear my song From: DougR Date: 10 Aug 99 - 01:19 AM Cathy and Kat: Ned Beatty's cross casting made that movie! Whoever would have seen him in that role, and he did it so well. It is a highly under rated movie regardless what my daughter thought about it. After all, she is only 43 years old! What could she know? A hastily added +++Grin+++ DougR |
|
Subject: RE: hear my song From: katlaughing Date: 10 Aug 99 - 10:15 AM Well, DougR and Cathy, I agree on the Ned Beatty thing. He was absolutely brilliant! Now, what can a 43 yr old know? About 3 years less than the vast amount of wisdom and trivial gar-bawsh I know!**BG** kat |
