Subject: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Angus McSweeney Date: 22 Jul 99 - 09:13 PM I don't want to put a ripple through the beautiful virtual reality that we have going on in the real Mudcat Tavern, but for those who aren't at work it adds a bit to get up from the computer, go to the kitchen and really pour that drink you're talking about! I just poured a nice cold scotch on the rocks and I' a'settlin' back in... |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Wolfgang Date: 23 Jul 99 - 04:34 AM now we are coming to what I drink: "Easy on the water, I'll tell you when to stop. Would you please charge your glasses with the real pure drop, and drink to the best o' the barley." I had a Laphroaig last night, undiluted. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Angus McSweeney Date: 23 Jul 99 - 06:58 PM Sounds like we need a "Best of Scotch" thread...but that's probably a little far from the tree... |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Margo Date: 23 Jul 99 - 09:59 PM I'm happily sitting here with my Guiness stout. I've completed a verse and started another one for my song, so I'm feeling like I've accomplished something today. Gads, How I struggle with lyrics. How about you guys? Margarita |
|
Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Angus McSweeney Date: 24 Jul 99 - 01:17 AM The Guiness definitely helps. When I was young and experiencing "young love", lyrics were easy! Now I'm older, the love is better, it's still the same wonderful woman, but the lyrics are almost impossible. I find myself singing the songs I wrote 20 and even 30 years ago. Ah, to feel youth again... I wouldn't stop writing this time. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Sandy Paton Date: 24 Jul 99 - 01:24 AM So write some good songs about "old love," Angus. There are a lot of us antique Mudcatters who could use 'em! Jay Stielstra just sent me his delightful "I Took the Road Less Travelled (and Now I'm Really Lost!)" He sang it at the Ark in Ann Arbor last week, and I asked him for it. Just seemed like my kind of song! Sandy |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: harpgirl Date: 24 Jul 99 - 08:56 AM Sandy, When I lived in Ann Arbor, I was a BIG Jay Stielstra fan! How can I get his tapes or CD's? I have been looking with no success! harpgirl |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: paddy Date: 25 Jul 99 - 02:19 AM Sandy- Can you share the lyric? I don't know the song or the writer, but ya gotta love that title. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: WyoWoman Date: 26 Jul 99 - 12:49 AM Hate to sound dumb, but what is Laphroiag and can you do some approximation of pronunciation for me? WW |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Angus McSweeney Date: 26 Jul 99 - 07:24 PM Laphroig (La-froyg (long o , soft g) is a single malt scotch made on the Isle of Islay, if I'm not mistaken. The peat moss that grows there evidently gives this scotch it's strong smoky taste. Now, I'm no expert, and I'm sure there are scotch drinkers who can think of a lot better description than "smoky", but one little sip fills your entire mouth with a rich, wonderful flavor (if you like scotch). And nothing loosens up the old pipes better for singing those low, growly songs! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: campfire Date: 26 Jul 99 - 11:43 PM Sorry, folks; Scotch and I don't get along so well. I'll stick to my Cuervo, if nobody minds. Double shot, in a snifter, glass of Pepsi on the side. That'll take me through all the catching up I have to do; I've been away at a REAL campfire in the North Woods. campfire |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Tavern Suggestion From: Angus McSweeney Date: 27 Jul 99 - 08:39 AM Hey campfire, didn't I just see you at the Mudcat Tavern? Seems you're catchin' up fast! You stick to your Cuervo and I to my scotch and let's do another round of Goodnight Irene... "Stop your ramblin', stop your gamblin' Stop your stayin' out late at night" Uh, let's do a different verse... |
