Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Max Date: 07 Jul 99 - 09:31 PM That's Bert up there holding it. I played this tonight and was very surprised at the quality of sound that came out of her. Seems to stay in tune pretty well, nice action, all notes hit, neck straight, I'd take it. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 08 Jul 99 - 06:07 PM Max, You expect someone to buy an Old Kay Guitar and you don't even give the Serial Number? All serious collectors are going to want some proof of the age of this guitar. Me, I'm thinking about bidding to make sure it doesn't wind up with one of my neighbors. Big RiB |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Max Date: 08 Jul 99 - 06:29 PM It only cereal #. But there's also a spot that looks like something was scratched off. Oh, and you all know that I expect the purchaser to have a license to carry a conceled Kay Sunburst guitar with a cereal #. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Wifie #2 Date: 09 Jul 99 - 01:29 AM We are currently taking application for wife # 3. Please send your applications to this address for review. Thank you #1 & #2. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Bert Date: 09 Jul 99 - 09:12 AM RiB, I didn't see a serial number on it just the model number, K 435. We were trying to guess it's age. It's difficult because it doesn't look as though it's been played much. It has a few dings and scratches but virtually no wear on the fingerboard. I thought it was from the Sixties but Max is probably closer, He thinks it's from the Eighties. It is definately NOT being sold as a collectors item, just an old knockabout. I guess that it's value is pretty close to the current bid. What do you think Max? Bert. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Songster Bob Date: 09 Jul 99 - 12:22 PM The bidding is at $45.00 now? Am I right? I'll go $50.00. In fact, if it's already $50, I'll up it to $55. Remind me, when's the cutoff? Where will it be shipped from (a useful thing to know when guessing at shipping)? Is there a case (hah)? I don't really NEED another guitar, but there is this trip to Iowa that might be hard on my D-28 (two flights each way on Delta). So I'm bidding, and will work on figuring out why I need it later. Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Bert Date: 09 Jul 99 - 12:27 PM There is no case. Shipping is free within the 48 contiguous states. It will be shipped from Exton PA. Auction Closes next wednesday the 14th at 7pm. EST. If you win, I can ship it straight to Iowa if you like. Bert. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 09 Jul 99 - 12:36 PM Marge is gonna kill me. I'll up the bid to $60. I'd probably send the money to Max sometime anyway. For you laggards out there, this is a chance to buy an experiment. You could get Art to teach you how to make this a 9 string wonder! Or you could take it apart just to see how it works. Maybe you could even scallop the braces (sure, it has to have braces). I'm suprised Rick has not bid, he could use it as a decoy so no one steals Woody. Big RiB, looking forward to winning. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Max Date: 09 Jul 99 - 01:56 PM Yes Bert, that's about right. Yes, roger, it has braces. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Duckboots Date: 11 Jul 99 - 10:10 PM Roger (oops, sorry. Big Roger) Over 30 years I calculate I've owned perhaps 35-40 arch-tops ranging from Epiphone Emperors and Gibson L5s through Gretch New Yorkers down to Harmony Roy Smecks, SS Stewarts, and Kay somethingorothers. It's always the same thing. I play a few jazz chords, sing a bit of Western Swing, and then it's up on the wall with them. They get sold or traded and after about 6 months I think, "Gee, I'd like an arch-top! I've learned my lesson. No more. (Well actually, I just sold my '46 Epiphone Triumph last month..so maybe in another few weeks...) Rick (deep into new album mixing mode) |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Mudjack Date: 11 Jul 99 - 10:21 PM We have a new rule in our house. When anything comes into the house, Something has to go out. I thought that was a fair rule when I told Mrs. Mudjack that I was biddiing on this neat guitar. Well she promptly reminded me of our peace treaty agreement. I said " Yeah, I know, I 'm going to get this guitar and let one of your Teddy Bears go". And then it was explained how the rules are supposed to work and when the guitar got here, I "Mudjack" would go. Now I did'nt have any trouble understanding that piece of mind. That's not Peace of mind. Com'on Catters, Someone out there must need a good guitar to get you started on it. The rest of us will teach you how to make songs with it. Mudjack |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Max Date: 12 Jul 99 - 07:29 PM Hi all. Thinking all weekend about the auction and with my lack of a real life I was fooling around with some stuff. I developed a prototype of what I had envisioned. You may all go and play with it if you want, but it will not be real until I announce it official, so don't expect your items or whatnot to be really for sale. Feel free to play and fool around all you want. You can see it at: http://204.108.149.156/threads.cfm Let me know what you think. Also, Bert's coming over tonight, we might be in the chat between 6 and 8pm EST or so. Later. |

Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Night Owl Date: 13 Jul 99 - 12:16 AM I'm glad we're starting this slowly! It's been my experience at auctions that the hot bidding doesn't start until the deadline is almost reached. Wasn't the deadline for bidding Wed. July 14th 7pm???? |
|
Subject: RE: AUCTION: Old Kay Guitar From: Max Date: 13 Jul 99 - 01:48 AM Yes, we're sorry about the discrepency in ending the auction, but shipping (and personal obligation) issues have forced us to end this one early. Sorry if Roger was bidding to induce more bidding, but it is not worth more than that, and we thought this the right thing to do. Our unpredictable schedule made it so. Roger: let us know if this is unacceptable, though by the time you read this, the Kay has already been shipped (for free, so don't worry). |
