Subject: Scotland's Parliament...(More BS) From: The Shambles Date: 12 May 99 - 04:57 AM Today, Scotland has it's own Parliament, which sits for the first time after a break of some 300 years. It has been the subject of many songs in the past and deserves some today, or at least some BS, on the subject. Wales also has it's own Assembly. (Whatever that is?) |

Subject: RE: Scotland's Parliament...(More BS) From: Roger the zimmer Date: 12 May 99 - 05:52 AM As someone working in higher education I hope the Scots succeed in reversing the student fees ruling and that this shames the UK Parliament into following suit. I suppose "Flower of Scotland" is the obvious song. As for those of us south of the border, we're used to being ruled by Scots: Ramsay MacDonald, Macmillan, Home, and half the present cabinet! Our media is also dominated by Scots, Welsh & Irish & Commonwealth-born, no sign of them all rushing "home". Personally, as a bit of a racial mongrel myself, I'm all for the melting pot, rather than national xenophobia. When we're all grey, they won't be able to single us out! |

Subject: RE: Scotland's Parliament...(More BS) From: Mo Date: 12 May 99 - 09:47 AM No no no Roger! It's when we're all tartan!!! Affinity with Scotland aside it's lots of colours all existing side by side in harmony, but still unique and different. Though admittedly you do have to be careful in your mix otherwise the outcome can be hellish. Hmm, maybe not such a great analogy afterall.... As for the song Shambs - any thing but Donald (Dewar) whaur's your troosers? will be fine by me. Wish you were hear to be a part of it though... Donald Dewar is the new leader of the Scottish Parliament by the way - one of the few honourable politicians around... Mo |
