Subject: I see a little bird From: Will Bakker Date: 10 Apr 99 - 02:42 PM All day long I have this song in my head. The first line is: I see a little bird that is sitting in a treetop. I think it's a song from the sixties and it also has Spanish words. It is a kind of Calypso song. Who knows the lyrics, who sang it and when was it a sort of a hit? |

Subject: RE: I see a little bird From: Will Bakker Date: 10 Apr 99 - 03:46 PM Sorry, that's not the song I mean. Maybe the song was only popular in Europe? |

Subject: RE: I see a little bird From: Penny Date: 10 Apr 99 - 04:44 PM I remember something like : "I see a little bird that is sitting in the treetop, A pretty little bird that is sitting in the treetop," And that, again, repeated four times in all. Surely that can't be all? |

Subject: RE: I see a little bird From: Will Bakker Date: 11 Apr 99 - 02:41 AM Yes, it is the song, but it's not all. There was a melody sung with different words, together with the lyrics that were repeted. It had an effect like a cannon has (the musical cannon that is!) . Apart from these lyrics it was also sung in Spanish. |

It is classified as an "embolada," which seems to be some sort of rhythm or dance like samba or tango. [Apparently the English translation was written for Nat King Cole by Al Hoffman and Dick Manning. It appears on Cole's double album (that is, 2 LPs reissued as one CD) "Nat Cole Sings the Great Songs" and "Thank You, Pretty Baby" EMI CD 538414, 2002. [It was also recorded by Bert Kaempfert and his Orchestra on the album "Tropical Sunrise," Polydor CD 533905, 1998. I don't know whether that recording includes a vocal.] |

Subject: RE: I see a little bird From: Flash Company Date: 22 Jan 05 - 09:43 AM Yeah, well that takes care of the English lyric! Nat Cole recorded this, not sure if I have a copy or not, but will check. As you say, Will, it also had a Spanish lyric. I don't speak Spanish, but imagine it translates as follows;- I see a little bird that is sitting in the tree top......... Life's too short! FC |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Brazilian Love Song / Andorinha Preta From: GUEST,rico Date: 12 Dec 15 - 08:57 AM thanks for the Portuguese lyrics. I heard this in the late fifties when nat king cole first released it. not fluent in the language. could not rationalize the words. my quest is complete. ever heard of Brazilian Playboys. in sixties, before the 64 kaffuffle there, there was an album with Jesu, Joy of man's desiring and something the liner notes called "voice percussion". another quest to locate this music. |
