As of today, you can access email addresses and birthdays of Mudcat members listed by month at the following site: http://www.mudcat.org/photos/ (For a listing by member name, see the "Birthday Thread--If you want it known!"). This is a completely voluntary list. If you want to be on it, either post to the "Birthday Thread" or "Emergency Email" thread or, better yet, email me at: bdcarr@bestweb.net. Who knows--maybe in the future we'll add the photos from "What do Mudcatters look like?" & have a corner on Mudcat auxiliary services! I couldn't have done it without a scare from Max, help from my talented son, & a well-timed school vacation!

(BTW...I just finished scanning some pics from the Rick Fielding concert in DC...and several new ones have been sent in..so, new stuff soon in the album!)

I won't be submitting the site to any search engines & the only links to it are through the Mudcat threads. I suppose there is some risk of spam, but I get that already, I suspect, from my ISP user list--a hazard of being online. I guess people have to decide if the gain of having a back-up email list outweighs the possible risk of spamming.

Each member decides in his/her profile whether to allow access to personal email address. I have no idea if whose sending to my list have already allowed access over Mudcat.

If anyone else wants his/her email address or birthday added to the list, this is a good week to let me know (vacation). Sending me email is the easiest way--bdcarr@bestweb.net. Or, if anyone feels, now that the scare is over, that s/he would preferred to be removed, I will be happy to do that, too. I don't think it's a bad idea to have back-up information in a separate location from the server. Well, I hope we can all settle back to more normal communication, now that our heart rates have gone down.

Yes, I for one think it is well worth carrying one the good work that you started. Just need to give the thread a prod from time to time.

I don't usually do this myself--not trying to toot my own horn--but we seem to have some new folks aboard. If any of you are interested in having your birthday information or email address readily available to the other 'catters, just let me know. If we use the site well, we can keep some of the personal communication off the threads, to keep the purists happier.

1)I kind of like how threads take a direction of their own from time to time and end up in a totally different area from whence they began...kind of mirrors the diversity in all things, and reflects the way most things go naturally if allowed to, but that's me, although I suspect other 'Catters share this sentiment.

2) it might just be coincidence, but since I've started forwarding all my spam to (sorry, no blue clicky thing) spamrecycle@ChooseYourMail.com (note case sensitivity) my spam has been reduced drastically. The only kick I have against it is I have to open the spam first before I can forward it, and run the risk of virus infection, not to mention catching a glimpse of a message I didn't want to read in the first place. But it's worth it to cut down on this junk.
