Subject: catspaw location From: ddw in windsor Date: 11 Mar 99 - 12:18 AM Hi catspaw, I was reading the Song That Moved You thread and noticed your referances to being on Clingman's Dome... That's my old neck of the woods and I was wondering if you're still around there. If so, where? I grew up in the Black Mountain area and still have a house there; we try to make it there three or four times a year and we're planning a trip in early April. Wondered if you could tell me where the GOOD music scene is in the area now... Looking forward to hearing from you.... cheers, ddw |

Subject: RE: catspaw location From: catspaw49 Date: 11 Mar 99 - 11:28 AM Beautiful country, but alas I'm not from there. I grew up in the foothills of the mountains in S. E. Ohio with roots extending back to Virginia and Kentucky. I love the Appalachians and the music that developed in their isolation. I went to college at Berea College in Kentucky which allowed me to explore some personal history. I never wanted to change the south; I wanted it to fill and change me, which it did. At the time I wrote about I was in college and also one of the Appalachian Volunteers attached to VISTA. We were working heavily with the Council of the Southern Mountains and their annual conference was at Fontana Dam. We got to Fontana late at night and went on down to Bryson City and then to Clingman's Dome...why I have no idea. But it was one of those memorable, not to be repeated experiences. My wife's wealthy sister has 2 beautiful vacation homes outside of Boone which they are good enough to let us use and we sometimes meet them there for family get togethers. Great country. Sorry that I'm no help on the music scene for you around there. catspaw |
