I got into morris dancing because I was new in town and found that the morris dancers were also doing the most folk singing, so joined the Harrisville women's morris team. Now I'm hooked and looö!Î à!Î €Ô€8 ÿ´ÿMessage_ID8 쳌£¥ Wÿ8 Ð|£¥ ' ÐHò' L …éã d^k Mf`æ' [n@ ^8ô' (Á

Oh, gosh, it's happening to me, too! And naturally I didn't save the text I had just written! In brief- any other bell-wearing, hankie-waving, stick-wielding types in Mudcat land?

You morris-catters really ought to listen to the patter on Stan Rogers "last" album, "Back Home in Halifax" where they dedicate "The Idiot" to morris Dancer - and describe their behavior & rituals. Its a hoot!!!

Cheers, BK

BK, I haven't heard that bit of patter, but I've heard that Morris dancers recognized in the tune one of their own, and occasionally show up at Stan's concerts to dance down the aisle when he performed that song. I also gathered he was not entirely thrilled by this.
I did a bit of it when I was younger, but what I did to my knee while cross country skiing took me out of circulation.
Blessings,
Barbara

I had the opportunity to learn morris dancing five or six years ago in Sarasota, Fl. We were a very small group of scottish dancers, one recently from California who offered to teach those of us interested. Mostly there is contra dancing here--Sarasota, Tampa, and other parts of the state, but I really enjoyed the morris. We used ladder rungs!

Not a dancer although I always wanted to be. I am a Morris musician though, surprised that there are not more from the UK so far.

Have a look at the embryonic web sites. The amount on info available on the web is increasing, which is more than can be said for the number of dancers!!!!!
