Subject: RE: new thread test From: Philippa Date: 09 Feb 99 - 11:31 AM I tried to start a new thread twice today, about 5 hours apart. I'm used to occasional transmission failures on Mudcat; usually it works if you try again later. But this time it didn't. |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: Will Bakker Date: 09 Feb 99 - 03:04 PM I have been trying to start a new thread many times today, but it didn't work. |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: Philippa Date: 09 Feb 99 - 04:57 PM Encouraged by Joe's success at strting a new thread, I came back for a third try at my lyrics request. It's still "Syntax error or access violation"; what are the rules? |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: :( Date: 10 Feb 99 - 02:53 PM i tried a couple times today too. am i doing something wrong? |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Feb 99 - 04:31 PM The 'Cat still seems to be having problems with characters that aren't standard American English (I think that describes Art Thieme and a number of others exactly, dontchathink??? Probably describes Joe Offer, too.). If you type your initial message directly into the message box, you should be able to start a thread. If you paste in a document from a fancy word processor like Microsoft Word, you may have problems. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: Bert Date: 10 Feb 99 - 04:44 PM You shouldn't have problems with plain ASCII text. I think it's the different extended ASCII versions that are causing the problem. Bert. |

Subject: RE: new thread test From: Pete M Date: 10 Feb 99 - 06:38 PM I'm sure Bert is correct. The problem does not appear to be in starting new threads, but trying to load the initial message that you send. The "syntax error" mesage occurs when the database management system tries to interpret a non standard ascii charcter. There is no evidence that messages pasted from word processors per se will fail, only messages which include accented letters, fancy quotes etc. If anyone's failed attempt to start a new thread did not include accents etc. it would be worthwhile letting us know as it would help Mike etc isolate the problem and enable the rest of us to avoid the things that SQL server can't cope with.
