Of course it isn't Irish but I do need the words and cords if possible.

The name of the song is "Silhouettes" and it was a popular R&B song from the late 70's or early 80's. (I Think!)

Thanks in advance. You've never failed me yet!

Ah, Reta, you're getting lazy - you're supposed to look for pop songs at the International Lyrics Server (click me, then bookmark it) first.
-Joe Offer-

SILHOUETTES

(Slay/Crewe)

Took a walk and passed your house late last night
All the shades were pulled and drawn way down tight
From within, the dim light cast two silhouettes on the shade
Oh what a lovely couple they made

Put his arms around your waist, held you tight
Kisses I could almost taste in the night
Wondered why I'm not the guy whose silhouette's on the shade
I couldn't hide the tears in my eyes

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...

------ lead guitar ------

Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat down your door
When two strangers who have been two silhouettes on the shade
Said to myself "you're on the wrong block"

Rushed out to your house with wings on my feet
Loved you like I'd never loved you my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days, two silhouettes on the shade

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...

Thanks again! reta

That was popular in the 50's Reta. If you don't find it, I can try to remember it. I knew it 40 years ago.

Thank you Susan and Peter. If you read Joe Offer's answer you will see that I have all but the cord. If you have them I would appreciate it. The site Joe sent me to is a gold mine, you both might want to click on it and then bookmark it also.

Thanks for helping.

Reta

Hermans version was a re make (and a very bad one) of a song from I957 . the original was done by a group called the shades.. I'm not sure if they are the one who made it a hit.

Silhouettes was released first cut by the Rays in '55 and then re-released in "57 where it hit the #3 position on the charts....It was also released by the Diamonds in the latter part of '57 and went to #10 on the charts.......Herman's Hermits did the song in '65 where it went to a #5 position.....

Benson - How do you know all this?! Do you have it memorized, or do you look it up somewhere?

Aldus, Benson, and SteveF:

Thank you all for the extension of infor, I really don't know at this point in time which recording it was. I didn't dream so many had recorded it. It's a good song and I hope it comes back. This proves on thing to me, as we get older events from the distant past become closer to the present. I have lost about 12 years somewhere. Is the a 'lost and found old memories dept.' anywhere in the Mudcat? I really must start a new thread if there isn't.

Blessings and thanks.

Reta

I'll be waiting for your answer to SteveF too Benson.

Who says it's not folk music? When I was a teenager in the SF Bay Area in the early '70s, there was a band called "Ra" (after the Egyptian sun god) that we used to get at our church dances. They did a fifties set featuring this song. We would all go home after the dances singing it. That's oral tradition, folks.

Beware, Reta - wishes sometimes come true! It came back with Cliff Richard not so long back, but it's probably safe to come out from behind the sofa now.

Thanks for the warning Steve, but I still agree with Jon. I think of the Gregorian Chants as the greatest music ever written. I am always humming them. What do U suppose they were considered in their day? Probably were "tops of the pops". (Forgive my jesting about sacred music but I can't help but think it has always been very popular as it is so beautiful.)

All the best. Blessings Reta

Sorry, I mean they are so beautiful as there are untold numbers of Gregorian chants.

Blessing and good listening. Reta
