Subject: New thread? From: McMusic Date: 15 Nov 98 - 12:31 AM Should we start another thread: Bad song ideas? Or maybe "Good idea/ Not so good lyrics? |

Subject: RE: New thread? From: BSeed Date: 15 Nov 98 - 05:43 PM Rather than ask, McMusic, go ahead and start one (or two). Of course you run the danger of starting a thread and nobody signs on, as I have done more than once. But in my sixty-six years, about 40 of them spent teaching, I've learned to deal with rejection. Not to like it, you know, but deal...oh, who am I kidding? It eats me up. --seed |

Subject: RE: New thread? From: Kris Date: 16 Nov 98 - 08:36 AM My 7 year old daughter is often 'visited by the muse'. I have to play guitar while she pours forth endless verses on various heartfelt themes (not all as bad as one might imagine...). I encourage her to sing and write songs, because I like to listen to her and I think it needn't be an exclusively adult occupation. I had been explaining to her that she probably inherited her voice and musical abilities from my paternal grandparents, who were much in demand in their youth at parties (she played piano, he sang). So she launched into a long and very emotional song around the recurring theme of 'when Walter Penney would sing, and Florida would play'. By the time she finnished she was in tears - and I had to keep a very straight face whilst telling her that actually it was Florence, not Florida. So, great idea - but a minor slip in the execution! - Kris |

Subject: RE: New thread? From: BSeed Date: 16 Nov 98 - 04:31 PM Kris, I hope that story gets the attention it deserves on this thread (if it doesn't, post it to the Songwriters' Forum thread)--and I hope you post some of your daughter's lyrics...and are recording her. I hope she never grows out of this gift. --seed |

Subject: RE: New thread? From: DonMeixner Date: 16 Nov 98 - 10:27 PM Kris, I have identical twin sons who at age 16 sound just like the Everly Brothers. When I walk into the room they clam up! They'll sing "The Dogs Party" but try to get them to sing "Let it Be Me" or "Dream" and its like dental work. Kids, can't eat em, can't legally sell em. Kris, encourage the little one and send along her efforts. Don |

Subject: RE: New thread? From: Kris Date: 17 Nov 98 - 04:57 AM Re the outpourings or Amoret - I haven't actually recorded her yet, but I did keep a few written copies somewhere - its just finding them....... But with output like hers I'm sure I'll have a gem to post very soon. Twin 16yr olds sound like hard work! I can remember being that age (just), when you like to sing, but you don't want OLD people to actually LISTEN for heaven sake! I'm sure they'll come around to your way of thinking in a year or two. Perhaps you should bug the room, or enter covertly - sneaking along behind the sofa below their line of sight. Commando-style. Actually, the solution would be to get just one incriminating recording of them singing 'Dream', and then they would be in your power forever. Think what it would be worth to them for you to keep that recording private!! Everlys on demand! Cheers Kris |
