One of my favorite pages, which I check every day or two, is The Black Stump (this is a U.S. mirror site..the original is here)

This place has some of the best general links for savvy netusers anywhere (as well as OZ specific stuff)....you can really get lost in it
The reason I post it now is that yesterday, in the 'what's new' section, they had this site on Australian Bush Poetry...really neat stuff and folky enough to warrant posting here...hope it is useful for some...

If you are interested in Australian folk music then you may find the folowing sites of interest: Matk Gregory's Songnet: http://www.chepd.mq.edu.au/boomerang/songnet/songnet.html

and our own site, FOLK AUSTRALIA at: http://folk.mountaintracks.com.au/Folk_Australia/ This one is getting bigger by the day and the links page is a great place to find more on bush ballads etc.

Apologies for the poor spelling. I wasn't concentrating! That should have read "following". .. and, of course his name is Mark, not "Matk".

Hi Valda,

welcome on board. Her site really is worth visiting. Has lots of info on all things folkie in Oz. And if you're really stuck for something to do you can try to find pictures of me, Alan of Australia and Bob Bolton there too!!

Here's a hint... look in the folk profiles section. bob and I are there under "B" alan's under "F".

Fiddler,

Here's an alternative version:

Ten little toes (Two Little Boys) Barrie Roberts

Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a cross cut saw
Gaily they played sawing away
And they ripped and they tore
Then poor little Jack had a fearful mishap
As he hacked off his left hand leg
He hobbled about, screaming and shouting
Till his young playmate said:

Did you think I would leave you hobbling?
And he hacked off his right leg too
Climb up here, Jack, a bit of cobbling
And you'll be just as good as new
When we grow up we'll both be lumberjacks
And we'll cut down the trees in rows
And do you think that you'll remember
When you had ten little toes

Long years passed, lumberjacks at last
Both of the boys became
Sawing away until the fateful day
When the forest was all aflame
Joe got caught, struggled and fought
But he could not get away
He'd resigned himself to a fiery death
When he heard Jack say:

Did you think I would leave you frying?
And he hacked off Joe's legs too
Climb up here Joe and let's be flying
For my tin feet will see us through
Can't you see Joe, I'm all a-trembling
Do you think it's the firelight's glows
Oh, no, Joe, it's I'm remembering
When I had ten little toes

Cheers,

Mr H

...!!totally amazing to see this thread again! Mr. Happy, you are replying to someone 4 1/2 years late. How did you find this?

I still look at "Black Stump" and it is still a neat place, though MUCH more commercial than 4 years ago.

Bill D,

a respondent called fiddler gave me support on one of PEL [Public Entertainment Licensing- UK] threads.

i wanted to know more about his views on other things so did a forum search.

the oz pages was one he'd requested lyrics on- so i thought i'd return a favour.

btw- we need all the support we can get on the PEL issue- it's a real threat to our freedom of expresssion thru music & song- so it would be much appreciated if oz & nz folkies could lend their weight by signing the online protest petion.
